Libya conflict: Niger border 'cannot be closed'
Source: BBC News

Niger's foreign minister says his country is unable to close its border with Libya to prevent fugitive Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi fleeing south.

Foreign Minister Mohamed Bazoum told the BBC that Col Gaddafi had not crossed the border or asked to cross.

1. That would be a huge border, thousands of miles long in the middle of a desert Impossible to police.

2. Vowing to return any fugitives from international justice who are found in Niger
would be nearly as effective, why flee to a country who will just send you back to where you came from?

But it does seem like if Gadaffi's wasting of Libyan's natural wealth didn't buy him any friends willing to take up arms with him, it did buy him friends who will shelter him.
