Not All Members Will Attend Obama’s Jobs Speech
Source: Roll Call

Rep. Paul Broun, who made headlines when he skipped the State of the Union address in January but tweeted about it, is planning a repeat performance Thursday.

President Barack Obama will talk about job creation before a joint session of Congress at 7 p.m., but Broun and several other Members won’t be part of the audience sitting in the House chamber, whether for political or personal reasons.

The Georgia Republican plans to watch the speech from his office, as he did for the president’s address in January, and host a live town hall via Twitter.

“He wants to be readily available to answer any questions they might have about the address, as well as be open to hearing his constituents’ thoughts and ideas for spurring job creation,” said Meredith Griffanti, Broun’s press secretary.

Found via Washingtonmonthly.com "Several Republicans to boycott POTUS jobs speech." And I have a proposal: ANY member of congress who doesn't attend a presidential joint session other than illness/family emergency doesn't get to vote on president's proposed bill.

1. Why do Republicons oppose jobs for Americans?
Disgustipating the way Republicons are on their knees for their Billionaire tax-free cronies, but crap all over American citizens who need jobs.

8. The answer to that question is obvious. They want the unemployment rate to stay high
because they think that might help them defeat Obama in 2012.

17. Hubris. They think they alone represent commercial interests
in our country. In addition, they are blinded by their obsession with free market economics. They cannot see anything even when it nearly hits them in the face, that might contradict one of the sacred tenets of their private-sector-is-perfect belief.

2. I want a lot of empty seats so Obama can pause and point out that
for those members, politics is more important than getting people back to work!

3. I am so sick of these friggen, disrespecting
repukes. Whether they like it or not, Obama is their president too. I never felt that bush was the president to Dems because he always made sure that Dems were not included in his rallies, but President Obama makes sure to be inclusive of all Americans.

12. This is over the top. The Republicans do not have enough
respect for this country AND THE OFFICE of the Presidency.

A bridge too far. In the past, we all sucked it up for
the good of the country. Sure under GWB w3e were critical
sometimes highly critical, but the Democrats showed up
for Bush's speeches.

This crowd of Republicans they have now show no respect
for anything. Is it any wonder the rest of us wonder
what this country is coming to???

13. Yup, suspend ALL the rules and debate and roll call vote
on this National Emergency immediately thereafter the speech - Congress didn't waste much time passing "Thank God It Passed" bankster bailout with all its secrets and relaxed rules.

Unfortunately, I suspect our POTUS has most likely already "compromised" with all, his big-bucked benefactors, his politically opposed, and the religiously insane alike.

At this point of his administration, should he and his admin get a pass for failure to bring about justice on the far greater criminal element of deceitfulness that perpetrated the resulting joblessness/homelessness of the previously able-employed who toiled and sacrificed to do what our government would not (offend the wallets of personalized big business) and who had a plan for paying it both back and forward, being merely living "collateral damage"? Will TPTB continue to sell us off as slaves and "worthless eaters"unworthy of justice or care?

Without that justice, at this point, whatever done for the unemployed is still the wrong thing to do.

And she'd be there if she could. The others....they are just being teabaggers, sort of like scum.

16. This deserves a story? MORE free publicity?
'It’s not unusual for Members to miss joint sessions, Senate Historian Don Ritchie said. Attendance isn’t mandatory, so Members skip for a variety of reasons, whether they be personal or political.

“No one takes attendance and there’s no way to tell who is there, especially since there aren’t enough seats for everyone on the floor,” he said.'

18. Who cares?
Woe be us if we measure success or failure based on who is in attendance. We need a solid plan. Something that will make people notice and get things moving. If this speech falls flat or succeeds wildly nobody will remember that some GOPer wasn't in attendance.

20. Can We Get To Repond On Broun's Twitter Town Hall?......
Edited on Wed Sep-07-11 01:30 PM by global1
I'm not on Twitter - but it would be cool if those DU'ers that are can get to make comments on his Twitter Town Hall. He might be sorry he ever thought to do that if we are able to make comments in support of the President. I just went to Broun's website: www.broun.house.gov and clicked on his twitter icon. Here is a link to that site: http://twitter.com/#!/RepPaulBrounMD

This guy is a doctor. He also has an iPhone app that he is encouraging people to download so they can communicate with him.

Seems to me we should do some communicatin' with him. Hmmmmmm......
