BEIJING — Chinese police have rescued 30 mentally handicapped people who were forced to work as virtual slaves at brick kilns in a poor central province, and have detained eight people including a 14-year-old factory supervisor, state media said on Wednesday.

Some of those rescued from the kilns in Henan province were blind and mute, while others were unable to say where they had come from, compounding the police's difficulty at returning them home.

"Some of them can't even speak a whole sentence, and they don't act like normal people," Liu Weiming, deputy director of publicity in Zhumadian, told the China Daily newspaper. The workers were found in Zhumadian, the China Daily reported.

"Most are staying at a relief station because they can't remember where they are from," Liu said.

3. Ho disgusting to treat handicapped people so horribly...Bastards!
Damn! How I hate to buy Chinese goods! How can we give them "most favored nation" status? Why doesn't the rest of the world complain?

8. Something yesterday on schools/institutions for troubled youth...
...run by Mormons; The couples who are routinely found to have "enslaved" a foreign national; Various serial polygamists "marrying" girls on the basis of "If it bleeds it breeds." (crudity very much deliberate - that is the semantic equivalent of the best of their arguments in favour.) A state (Florida) notorious for losing children under it's care. States which refuse to admit or countenance DNA testing which might exonerate inmates on Death Row. Lets not get into the same sex partner debate. What of girls forced to give up 6-7% of their lives (at that stage) AND a child, because of a little too much enthusiasm at the drive-in.

Consider the opening of the classic novel, Anne of Green Gables, and the intention of her adoptive parents (a brother & sister) to adopt a boy who could be put to work supporting them in their advancing years.

From our current vantage point, the Salem Witch Trials, are exposed as the machinations of a bunch of disaffected teens, a real life example of 90210 coliding with Days of our Drearies and the Young and the Rootless. ("Root" being an Aussie coloquialism for "fuck")

Oh yeah Suppressed Memory Syndrome and Janet Reno's modern day witch trials; McCarthyism; the deliberate use of "impecabble negro buyers" to force whites out of certain neighbourhoods in order to keep the recently (previous 50 years) emancipated bunched up and contained.

By modern standards Johnny Appleseed was an eco-terrorist.

Beams in thine own eyes and all that.

Oh and the rest of the world is complaining. It complains vociferously. But Gods forbid that such complaints be permitted to interrupt "Idol" and the saga of the most recently disappeared blonde, blue eyed female between the ages of six and sixteen.

4. How can the USA compete with that kind of
lowest common denominator?

5. By attempting to compete on equal terms, rather than encouraging...
...the rest of the world to shaping up, as occured in the past with Japan and the manufactuting base of SE Asia.

Where exactly did YOU think the last 30 years (and more) of disenfranchisment and dispossession have been taking the United States?

11. Not sure if you realize it, with your screaming bold capitals,
that you're "preaching to the choir". Go pick a fight with someone who doesn't agree with you.

9. It would be good to recognize that the Chinese police themselves made this rescue
of the disabled workers.

That would mean they DON'T want this going on there, one would almost imagine.

10. How fucking ironic.............
On the other hand, there may be a small glimmer of hope yet; at least a few Chinese cops don't tolerate fascistic behavior within their local borders.......

12. Probably "rescued" them...
so they could put them to work in another more important production facility.

13. Good for the Chinese. Our corrupt leadership would praise the factory owners
for job creation.
