Shell, BP Resume Gulf Platform Operations

HOUSTON—Royal Dutch Shell, BP PLC and Apache Corp. said Tuesday they were resuming operations and redeploying personnel at Gulf of Mexico platforms that were evacuated last week ahead of Tropical Storm Lee.

Shell said production ramp-ups at each platform will vary, but resumption of the company's Gulf production to prestorm levels may take three to five days. Apache spokesman Bill Mintz said production at the company's Gulf platforms is resuming as pipelines and other third-party-operated facilities are returned to service.

BP, the top oil-and-gas producer in the Gulf, started sending workers back to the eight platforms that were evacuated last week and was preparing to resume production, the company said Tuesday in a recorded phone message.
