2 Albuquerque abortion clinics are facing inquiry
By: The Associated Press | The Associated Press | 09/04/11 5:08 PM

.The New Mexico Medical Board has agreed to investigate two Albuquerque clinics that perform abortions.

That comes after complaints based on 911 calls for emergency transports of clinic patients to hospitals.

Pro-life advocates sought the investigation and provided tapes of 13 calls, which date back to late November 2008.

Representatives for the clinics say the complaints to the board are nothing more than a national strategy of harassment by anti-abortion advocates.

1. If the clinics aren't providing safe care, they need to be investigated.
The whole point of legalizing abortions was to ensure access to safe abortions!

2. Absolutely
However, I don't think our fears would be unfounded that regulation may become distorted as a backhanded effort to re-criminalize.

Feeling a tad nervous.

3. As long as the investigation follows normal channels and
doesn't leapfrog to the state legislature.....

5. It might be interesting to learn from whence those "13 calls" came, especially...

...given that the "pro-life" people have
tapes of them. I'd hate to find that they
were, shall we say, "generated". (And I
wonder if any wiretap laws were broken
in their acquisition of those tapes.)

4. 13 emergency calls and no malpractice suits. Something is not right.
