Feds warn of small airplane terror threats

WASHINGTON (AP) - The FBI and Homeland Security have issued a nationwide warning about al-Qaida threats to small airplanes, just days before the anniversary of the 2001 terrorist attacks.

Authorities say there is no specific or credible terrorist threat for the 10-year anniversary of the attacks on the World Trade Center and Pentagon. But they have stepped up security nationwide as a precaution.

According to a five-page law enforcement bulletin issued Friday, as recently as early this year, al-Qaida was considering ways to attack airplanes.

The alert, issued ahead of the summer's last busy travel weekend, said terrorists have considered renting private planes and loading them with explosives.

Federal officials allowed crop-spraying planes to return to the skies as long as they stayed away from commercial airports, one day after they were grounded because of security concerns after the previous week's terrorist attacks. 3. I agree -- so many small airports around the country with no security at all
It would be a cinch to steal a small plane or cropduster and use it for whatever nefarious purpose you might have in mind. Not sure what can really be done about it.

Edited on Sun Sep-04-11 10:11 AM by Poll_Blind
Sometime before 2003 I remember reading an article in a California newspaper which hypothesized how Al Quaeda could use a small airplane to disseminate anthrax all over the Bay Area and how difficult it would be to trace.

But that aside, like this is some new idea? Like this is some heretofore new method of terrorizing? Or did our billions and billions of intel discover a message board in Peshawar where someone thought this would be a good idea?

Or are we getting back to the days of the Terror Alert Of The Week?

This week it's small planes turned into bombs. Next week, Al Quada's talking about taking Greyhound busses hostage. The week after that, prep for the armed assault on Christmas Shoppers. Puppies packed with explosives.

Zombie gas.

Putting ricin on rectal thermometers in the factory.

I thought we were really fucking passed that point.
