Sarah Palin, in Iowa, attacks President Obama and ‘crony capitalism’
Source: The Washington Post

INDIANOLA, Iowa — Sarah Palin delivered a populist broadside here Saturday against President Obama, professional politicians of all stripes and what she called the “crony capitalism” that she said is destroying the country. But she offered no fresh clues about to whether she will seek the presidency in 2012.

The former Alaska governor used a tea party rally to chastise the president and a “permanent political class” that she said has protected their powers and enriched themselves, their friends and their contributors at the expense of ordinary Americans and the country’s well being.

“There is a name for this,” Palin said. “It’s called corporate crony capitalism. It’s not the capitalism of free men and free markets, of innovation and hard work and ethics, of sacrifice and of risk. No, this is the capitalism of connections and government bailouts and handouts…and influence peddling and corporate welfare.”

Palin has said she will announce by the end of this month whether she will join the race for the White House in 2012. On Friday night, she told reporters “there’s room for more” candidates in the GOP field and when she arrived to greet supporters at a local restaurant, she was greeted with chants of “Run, Sarah, run.”

3. The whole thing was pathetic!
Very few people, and there were some chanting for her to run at the first, but it seemed like they weren't so energetic after listening to her for a short time, and at the end only a few chanting for her to run!

I heard that fox news didn't even run the event today. 71% of republican polled don't want her to run. I mean how pathetic does it have to get before she admits she won't be running? Could it be a last desperate attempt to make a few bucks?

So, the question is which capitalists are "ours" and which are the Quitter's.

13. First thing that fasshole...
(new word I just coined... female asshole) and I have agreed on.

Corporate crony capitalism. Has a ring to it.

A former student - teabag type - used that term on me and I led him around the ring and over to the Socialist corner with it.

He was nodding his head and saying the big corporations are getting bailed out and tax breaks and outsourcing jobs... etc.

He was stunned when I informed him that the left has been saying this for years.

22. Note that she also attacked Republican candidates
"To be fair some GOP candidates, they also raise mammoth amounts of cash and we need to ask them too, ‘What if anything do their donors expect in return for their investments?’" Palin said during the Tea Party of America's "Restoring America" event. "We need to know this because our country can’t afford more trillion-dollar thank-you notes to campaign backers."

http://firstread.msnbc.msn.com/_news/2011/09/03/7591372-palin-in-iowa-warns-tea-party-of-crony-capitalism-by-both-parties

I don't know if she's trying to appear above partisanship or if she's reinforcing her "Tea Party" (as opposed to Republican) branding.

23. Poor Palin...
2000 people drove from all over the country to hear her say......effectively nothing. Her 15 minutes have long ago expired and the only way she can keep the charade going is by teasing an announcement for President. The minute she finally grudgingly concedes she is not running, the press will no longer care about her and she'll lose her spotlight. Oh, it's not that she doesn't want to run, she does - she just knows she'd spend whatever political capital she has left and lose badly to Perry or Romney, and then be virtually irrelevant from that moment on.

Casting herself as the ultimate outsider, the former Alaska governor used a tea party rally to chastise the president and a “permanent political class” that she said has protected their powers and enriched themselves, their friends and their contributors at the expense of ordinary Americans and the country’s well-being.

I don't know who's writing her speeches these days but, I'll be damned if she didn't this one right. Unfortunately, her and her sheep are not the ones to solve the problem, especially since they (Republicans) are the culprits for the most part. :evilfrown:

top in the (Republican) polls. The fact that anyone on the right want to see her in the race should give you a good indication of how divided the Republicans are. They don't have anyone they like.

...this is the capitalism of connections and government bailouts and handouts…and influence peddling and corporate welfare."

....sounds very good to me....her solutions will be diametrically opposed to ours but her populist theme hits a resonant note across the entire political spectrum....

....let the Dems touch Social Security and Medicare, palin and bachmann will then become strong defenders and champions of Social Security and Medicare, and we will have a fascist woman for president....

....does Obama care, I doubt it....he already has what he wanted, to be the first African American president....

33. She should know crony capitalism
As Gov of Alaska, she handed $ 500 million to TransCanada to study building a pipeline to transport natural gas from the Alaskan North Slope to the continental US. The oil corporations that own the natural gas could easily have told her the project was a no go because the price of natural gas is not high enough.

45. Projection
Edited on Sun Sep-04-11 10:22 AM by Zambero
Accusing your political rivals of the very thing you're guilty of is a longstanding practice, used for the purpose of "innoculating" oneself or one's political allies agaist being called out for particular misdeeds, policy blunders, or extremism. Glenn Beck's misuse of the term "fascists" or "Nazis" as applied to progressives is a case in point. He's fascist to the core, but most of his (shrinking number of) low info followers are not likely to make that association since they heard it first from him. Also, the right's labelling Obama a "reckless spender" is cover for what went on the previous administration -- leaving a huge tab for trillions in war debt, an unfunded presciption drug entitlement, and tax policy that cause a massive revenue shortfall.

was the recipient of the largest amount of pork, thanks to Sen Ted Steven. She became known nationally for the getting over two hundred million to build the bridge-to-nowhere. That never got build but she kept the funds. During her two short years as Gov, half of which was campaigning out of state, she received close to a billion dollars each year in pork.

Sen Ted Stevens was found guilty of federal corruption in court. Later his conviction was overturned by Obama's DOJ, based on what they claimed where legal technicalities.

Did the script just change? Or is "corporate crony capitalism" the Palin definition for socialism?

Whatever ... it's certainly projection of the highest order because Sarah herself mastered "crony capitalism" during her time as an almost-half-term Gov of AK!

It's about the only thing that she did master.
