Republican Revolt: Virgina’s GOP Governor Splits With Cantor, Rejects Conditioning Disaster Aid On Budget Cuts
By Pat Garofalo on Aug 31, 2011 at 10:40 am

..............

However, not everyone in the GOP agrees that disaster funding should play second fiddle to the GOP’s budget-slashing agenda. Gov. Bob McDonnell (R-VA) yesterday broke with Cantor, saying that “I don’t think it’s the time to get into that (deficit) debate“:

Virginia GOP Gov. Bob McDonnell, breaking with Cantor, on Tuesday suggested that deficit-spending concerns should not be a factor as Congress and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) respond to the hurricane.

“My concern is that we help people in need,” McDonnell said during his monthly radio show. “For the FEMA money that’s going to flow, it’s up to them on how they get it. I don’t think it’s the time to get into that (deficit) debate.”

The Hill noted that “before Irene hit, McDonnell had requested emergency help from FEMA in 10 districts, including Cantor’s. All the requests were granted.”

2. I understand now
Cantor knew that his district got the money...and then insisted on the spending cuts to keep his credibility with his Tea Bagger buddies.

What a f**king hypocrite!!!

17. His Dem opponent should run ads with his comments. Even though they got the money,
his district's voters won't like hearing him say they shouldn't get the money.

I hope he is on video or audio tape saying it, but if he isn't, at least quote him in the ads!

5. Is this a divorce or just a trial separation?
Cantor finally found a limit for some of his Republican colleagues. Is this a permanent rift, or just a momentary spat and all will be forgiven/forgotten at the next Klavern meeting?

6. Hilarious...
The Village Idiot Cantor, let's his fast mouth run wild, without enough brains
to realize how bad this would look for the RushTurds.

McDonnell is scrambling to cover his OWN ass...let's see if the T.HaterBaggers and FuxNooseChannel
will jump on him for leaving the mantra of Screw-the-American-People.

11. If there are to be off-set cuts, then the cuts should COME FROM THE DEFENSE / PENTAGON BUDGET ONLY
Edited on Wed Aug-31-11 12:04 PM by vkkv
GOP idiot Eric Cantor wants ALL DISASTER AID spending to be off-set by cuts elsewhere. Okay, these hurricanes and earthquakes are a matter of economic national security and citizen security. So, if there are to be off-set cuts, then the cuts should COME FROM THE DEFENSE / PENTAGON BUDGET ONLY Mr. CANTOR.

Call your reps and tell them that if there are to be off-set cuts for disaster aid, the cuts must come from the Pentagon budget. I've already called more than ten Congressmen. Do it.

He's as teabaggy as the rest of his Chamber of Commerce cronies, but smart enough to play "good cop" to appeal to moderates...

3. Cantor has become quite the loudmouth demagogue. Wonder what Virginians think

of his barking about finding spending cuts before FEMA helps people in Virginia, who suffered from an earthquake felt (albeit slightly) all the way here in Boston, wildifires and Irene.

Maybe Republicans evolved such big mouths to counterbalance their lack of hearts?

15. "My concern is that we help people in need...."
You know, I was going to write out a big long list of the ways Governor McDonnell has screwed Virginians, from removing discrimination protections for gays to selling our personal data to Northrop Grumman to gutting the healthcare bill before it even passed and taking that opportunity to further restrict abortions to making Virginians pay to file their state taxes electronically to not creating a single new job....

But then I realized that he's a pretty shitty politician, and he failed to succeed in doing many of those evil things he wished to do, despite having a Republican-controlled legislature to back him up.

He's also already done us all the favor of killing his own aspirations of becoming the VP candidate this election turn, by writing a Klan-friendly proclamation of "Confederate History Month" that somehow forgot to mention black people or slavery.

He may further do us the favor of running for the Senate in 2014, which will allow for direct comparison of his own abysmal no-jobs record as Governor to that of former Governor (now Senator) Mark Warner, ensuring Warner's reelection at the exact same time that the opportunity of a Democratic supermajority in the Senate presents itself.

So overall, he's about the best kind of suck you can have: a politician too incompetent to accomplish the program of destruction he envisions, who also damages his party's chances as a whole.

16. That would be interesting if Obama caves and therefore moves to the right of McDonell.
That's not just triangulation, that's super doormat-level triangulation.
