7th person near death after Indiana State Fair stage collapse
Source: MSNBC

A seventh person injured in the Aug. 13 stage collapse at the Indiana State Fair grounds is near death, authorities said Monday.

The victim, identified as Meagan Toothman, 24, remains on life support. Earlier, state police reported she had died.

Her family's Web site says, "Late last night it became apparent that our Meagan was no longer with us. The decision was made to allow to her to be at peace. This afternoon she is scheduled for a surgery that will provide gifts of sight, health, and life to dozens who are in need."

Toothman, who lived in Ohio, worked as a high school cheerleading coach in Cincinnati while pursuing a master's degree in counseling, Indystar.com reported.

What a shame. And how many more have serious lifetime injuries?

1. I have to wonder
Indiana is a red state and has been attacking Union Workers, I wonder if this was a Union project or not and if not, if shoddy workmanship was responsible for this terrible disaster.

3. Would it make a difference to you if it was a union project AND shoddy workmanship was involved?

At least one union worker was killed.

Note that I am not implying that shoddy workmanship was involved, just noted a glaring hole in your list of possiblities.

5. Yes it was a union job and no it has nothing to do with it.
Enough of that already, it was a fucktastrophe caused by bad planning and communications in several sectors, as well as a weird-ass storm front that, while predicted, kicked its ass up at precisely the wrong place and time.

I live 15 minutes NW of the fairgrounds. We got hella-dark-as-night clouds and thunder, no wind like the venue got. Absolutely no rain. Go figure.

2. Heavens...
tragic doesn't begin to describe this ordeal. They were there, just to have a good time and loose their lives--or survive to live a nightmare of chronic health issues. And a lifetime of medical bills--even if the lawsuits are successful...

4. This was another stupid incident...
they NEVER should have allowed that area to be occupied, with the forcast of what was to come.

Hopefully anyone and everyone involved will have their ass sued off.

6. Let the lawsuits begin.
Two have been filed. The State of Indiana has a cap of 5 Million per incident for victims of 'crimes' like this. Let's hope that is overruled in this case.

1. The weather was easy to spot. I know, I live about 7 miles from the fairgrounds and had been watching the radar for nearly 2 hrs before the wind took that stage roof down.

2. It was a union setup and yet, it wasn't inspected, at all. The carnival rides are inspected but that stage wasn't.

3. The State Fair management should have called a delay and didn't, at least soon enough. Bastards.

Absolutely gutted about the loss of life and there is a 10 yr old in a drug induced coma still today - Aug 22nd. Several of the injured have no health insurance.

It's very hard for me to be proud of this state and I was born here. Where's the crying emoticon?

7. The Free Market
See, the Free Market works! We don't need no steenkin' inspections. Those dead people will never use the scaffolding again, and that loss of market share will make the scaffolding company improve its services and make them safer!

8. One of my friends is a musician you have heard of and will not play on these stages
Anywhere, anytime for any reason or any performance fee after one of their techs got seriously injured working on one that should't have been used for anything other than teaching engineering students about metal fatigue.

Permanent venue or no show.
