US vice president visits coal-rich Mongolia
Published on 22 August 2011 - 6:25am

US Vice President Joe Biden arrived in Mongolia Monday for talks with the leaders of China's resource-rich neighbour, which is opening up its vast coal reserves to foreign investors.

Biden left China after a five-day visit aimed at shoring up the reputation of the United States' beleaguered economy and flew to the Mongolian capital Ulan Bator, where he will meet the president and prime minister.

The vice president is the most US senior leader to visit Mongolia since 2005, when then president George W. Bush made a brief stopover in the capital.

Sandwiched between China and Russia, Mongolia has traditionally pursued a careful foreign policy that seeks not to alienate its giant neighbours.

6. Hey, it's a whole new set of wars.
Now that Russia is no longer the superpower that once balanced China, and we aren't either, for that matter...

Let's go over right next to China, who has historically been, and is currently being, extremely sensitive about its borders.

Once we're there, let's arrange to get control over a huge resource deposit of a sort China is desperately seeking. Of course it will look friendly at first. We're good at that, or used to be.

Maybe we can mine diagonally and actually get under China's territory. Let's dump some toxic waste there too. Oh, and by the way, let's put enough soldiers there to defend it all against whatever number of soldiers China clusters on their side of the border.

Naah... could never happen.
