Gabrielle Giffords Now Knows Who Died In Tucson Shooting, Aide Says
Source: Huffington Post

PHOENIX -- Rep. Gabrielle Giffords is now aware of who was killed during the January shooting rampage in Tucson that left her seriously wounded, her spokesman said. C.J. Karamargin confirmed Friday that the Democratic politician was told in late July the names of the dead, including her aide Gabe Zimmerman; U.S. District Judge John Roll, a close friend; and 9-year-old Christina-Taylor Green, the Arizona Republic reported.

Giffords has been recovering from a gunshot wound to the brain from the Jan. 8 shooting that killed six people and wounded her and 12 others. The man charged in the rampage, Jared Lee Loughner, was sent to a federal prison facility in Springfield, Mo., after a federal judge concluded he was mentally incompetent to stand trial on 49 charges. Her loved ones had been keeping the extent of the tragedy from her until she was strong enough to handle it. Husband Mark Kelly said in June that Giffords knew how many people were killed or wounded but wasn't aware that Zimmerman and Roll were among them.

"She was deeply saddened by it," said Karamargin, who is leaving Giffords' staff for a job with Pima Community College. Giffords received the news just days before her surprise Aug. 1 appearance on Capitol Hill to vote on the federal debt ceiling.

Giffords was meeting with constituents in the parking lot of a Tucson grocery store when she was shot. This month, Giffords gave her personal condolences to Ross Zimmerman, Gabe's father, during a brief telephone conversation, the paper reported.

2. Her story never seems to cease making me cry
Yet I'm very glad she's alive and doing well. It would have been a terrible tragedy if she had lost her mind too. In a way she's a story of hope and miracles in the face of terrible tragedy. I say this without forgetting the death of others involved in this insane action. I just think that Gabrielle Giffords will remember those who died in her actions for the rest of her life. If she worked for them when they were alive, she'll certainly never cease to work for the survivors.

3. I am glad those around her are...
...protecting her by giving her the truth about what happened as she is ready to deal with it. But no one should have to deal with this.

4. y'think they will tell her
about the speaker of the house, mr. boner who felt party and attending a fundraiser was more important to him than visiting her in this hospital shortly after the shooting? NAN

i'm pretty sure if pelosi was the speaker even in the minority roll, if it was a goper, she will go to visit and mingle with the family.

That my friends is the difference.

7. In fact, she did.
I remember reading that a few female members of Congress, Pelosi among them, went to visit Giffords shortly after she became conscious.
