LINCOLN (AP) — Sen. Mike Johanns has received an earful of conflicting views from his constituents about what caused the nation's soaring debt and how to reduce it.

Monday's town hall gathering attracted about six dozen people.

Some people shouted as they vented about what they saw as out-of-control spending in Washington. Others urged the senator to help raise taxes on the wealthiest Americans as a way to cut the debt.

Jennifer Wendelin told Johanns that revenue increases and spending cuts have to be part of any debt reduction plan.

1. The out-of-control spending on wars we can't afford is the big elephant in the room.

And those fat cats who are profiting from the wars don't want to pay for them.

I hope those people venting about the spending pointed that out. I can't know for sure because the link isn't working, Steve. :shrug:
