In Cedar Rapids, Bachmann Challenges Obama to Present Recovery Plan Before Markets Open
Source: KCRG

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Republican presidential hopeful Michele Bachmann is calling on President Obama to address the nation before financial markets open Monday to lay out his plan for economic recovery.

Bachman, a Minnesota congresswoman seeking the GOP nomination, told reporters Aug. 6 the president needs to address the unprecedented step by Standard & Poor’s to decision Friday to reduce the nation’s credit rating from AAA to AA+.

Obama, she said, has failed to provide any leadership as the economy was “literally melting in front of our eyes.”

“Mr. President, you were AWOL,” Bachmann told about 75 supporters outside the Hotel at Kirkwood Center. “You were missing in action. You failed to put forward a plan, any plan, to bring us back to balance so yesterday wouldn’t occur.”

Oh my GOD my head hurts now. I wish she would just go away. If I never heard the name Michele Bachmann ever again it'd be too soon!

33. She has been AWOL from her District (MN6) since she was elected
since then it has been all about her and never about the people in MN 6. She has done nothing for them.

5. Michele, ma belle, forget the "failure" in the White House - he obviously has no clue. . .
you've said so yourself, many, many times.

So rather than wait for him to return from being AWOL, put forth your own plan, steal the march on him, and so save the country.

Speak with John McCain, too - maybe you can get him to let loose with his plan for "winning the war against terrorism" and you can combine for a "two-fer."

Don't hold us all in suspense, Michele -- if you've an idea, share it so we can all prosper.

Simple-minded criticism, while in line with your intellect, doesn't help. These are words that go together well (sont des mots qui vont très bien ensemble) but signify nothing of value. Share with us your wisdom and superior leadership, Michele, share with us your vision, or just shut the fuck up and spare us all from further useless blather and a steady stream of hot air. It's hot enough already. If you can't help with the economy, maybe you can help with the weather.

41. yeah, Bachman, a true hypocrite
sucking off of the government teat is ONLY for those who deserve it. The needy are undeserving, only the rich are deserving, including you. After thirty years of mostly Reaganomics, trickle on theory, you'd think they'd get a clue or they just don't care about most americans as long as they are doing fine.

If the rich and corporations sit on the money or invest it overseas, then it is profit over patriotism-of course, I think most are global and they could care less if this country goes down as long as they make a buck. So, it is the responsibility of government to provide those jobs, not decrease jobs.

Little Boots and his "constituents" have done so much damage to this country, it's going to take a massive effort to bring this nation back. Since he believes in deregulation, allowing his friends to police themselves, and decreasing taxes for his friends, while basically allowing them to raid the treasury (massive war profiteering with little accountability), he has created a major FUBAR. Unfortunately, drastic measures needed to be implemented, not the same old shite.

10. A WORKABLE recovery plan would also cause her to scream
Here's our problem: When the economy is as fucked up as it is--with both the private sector and the government in a world of hurt--you have two choices: try to get the private sector back to health by heavy spending (and before anyone asks, the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act has two problems--it contains tax cuts and it didn't spend enough money by a factor of between 3 and 4--that doomed it to failure) and concomitant taxation of the highest earners and the corporations. If that were done, the government would also return to health because government spending creates taxable private sector revenues. We know this works because the only time it DIDN'T work as well as it could have was when the Democrats let the Republicans screw around with the numbers--and even then, it worked better than a basket filled strictly with tax cuts would have.

The other choice is to slash taxes and spending and hope things improve. That always makes things worse, but it's the only thing the tea party will accept. Remember the Water Heater Analogy: when yours breaks, you don't ask for a pay cut, cancel cable and swear not to participate in deficit spending, you borrow $400, buy a new one and get a job in a gas station to pay it off.

12. Spending
Spending on what? Even if the govt buys things the things they are buying are probably made overseas. There aren't enough pick and shovel jobs to be meaningful like in the days of FDR. We have machines for that. The only thing that is going to get this economy moving again is to get the corporations to open their wallet and raise wages. CAN YOU SAY UNIONS!! Bring back the tariff as our founding fathers would have done and if the govt is going to buy things mandate that they be US made like electronics, clothes, machines, tools etc.

40. yes, spending on infrastructure and mass transit
under Little Boots, our infrastructure has deteriorated since he was more interested in his bogus wars and his war profiteering friends. Mass transit would be a boon for those who have lost their jobs or have a minimal wage job and can no longer afford a vehicle and the costs that come with it.

Our bridges need overhauled. If we don't start investing in our infrastructure, we're going to be looking less like part of the industrialized nations. And, I'm not talking about privatizing every damn roadway or mass transit. We don't need toll roads where corporations are reaping the profits and we still get holding the bill to repair the roads. After seeing what privatizing did in Iraq, I'd say we got a "pig in a poke." Shoveling mass quantities to war profiteers while getting shitty services and goods most of the time. Nothing like paying 1,000 dollars for a gallon of gas or rebuilding Iraq with structures that are so unsafe they can't be used.

15. First, you raise taxes on the top 5% or so, who have gotten so much more rich lately
of course Obama has tried to put various plans through congress since he was elected. Most of them have been either obstructed into oblivion, or whittled down to the very small sizes.

If he put forward another new plan now, I suppose the republicans would say (this time) "ok, fair enough, let's put it into action and give it a year"?

16. I have a recovery plan!
Bachmann and the rest of the TeaBagging goons can "Go Galt", and let adults handle the problem.

I'm sure we could arrange something in the Aleutians for them - port-o-potties, spam, DVD's of Palin's movie, and all the handguns and ammo they need for those 2nd Amendment solutions to life's little annoyances. We promise to check in on them in a year or two to see how the libertarian paradise is doing.

21. Well...What is Pres. Obama's Recovery Plan?
I don't think he should do anything because Bachmann "challenges' him to do so ...

... but what is Pres. Obama's plan to bring manufacturing jobs back to the United States? What taxes on the rich would he increase? What programs exactly does he think should be cut? How is he going to raise middle class incomes, etc?

Frankly, I'm not sure there is a well articulated, point-by-point Obama plan to real prosperity.

23. well, where is the Tea Party/Republican job plan? that's the real question
In the seven months since the TP took over the House, we've yet to see a SINGLE jobs bill...but we've seen bills to defund NPR, defund Planned Parenthood, redefine rape for the purposes of the Hyde Amendment, renew the PATRIOT Act, and threaten to cut Social Security and other important things the government does. And Bachmann does not care one damn bit. She's in line with Mitch "De-Elect Obama" McConnell and John Cryin' Boehner.

27. She also said that if she was elected, she'd turn the economy around
In her first month in office. She said she'd deregulate business, and cut corporate taxes.

I wonder what she'd do the rest of her term!

Methinks she needs to learn how things work in Washington.

34. Answer three questions
1. What is your plan to reduce unemployment?

2. How much will it cost?

3. How do you plan on implementing it?

Lowering taxes and empowering "job creators" is NOT an answer. We have been subject
to that philosophy for 11 years now and look where we are. We want specific answers and
a solution to the problem. Your "trickle down" economy is simply you pissing on my leg
and telling me it is raining. We have, instead, John K Gailbrath's description of it
as the "horse and sparrow" economy. Stuff enough into the horse and he will eventually
leave something on the road side for the sparrow.
