10. They voted NO when it was safe to VOTE NO
It's all part of the game.

The Dem votes trickled over as needed and then when the game was over some hid behind the NO and others said--ah screw it and voted YES anyway.

If you are Progressive--no one in Washington represents you.

That's just the reality.

There's no Santa Claus.

36. My Congressman, Xavier Becerra,
held a conference call with a large group of voters last Thursday evening.

He took a poll on the telephone on the opinions of his voters about voting yes or no on a bill that was expected. A large percentage of his constituents said they wanted him to vote no. He voted no.

You can understand that Xavier Becerra is very popular with his constituents.

His father was an immigrant, but he went to Stanford Law School.

Xavier Becerra is very intelligent and in close touch with his constituents. He is an amazing man.

My rep, Zoe Lofgren, voted no. Sweet, I called her office today having attended a rally at her San Jose office org'd by Moveon.org. And so did John Conyers, Keith Ellison, other progressives.

(edit) Giffords voted to increase the debt ceiling.

If you happen to live in a district held by a Republican that voted no (which there are 66 of them), then you should vote to re-elect him too.

Got it.

No wonder I don't bother coming 'round here no more.

15. What a coincidence
80 percent is the same number of Americans left to fight for measly crumbs, the bottom 80 percent that control 7 percent of the wealth in this country. I guess 8 out of 10 of the citizens in this country just don't matter as long as they can dupe enough of us into voting for one of the two lousy ass parties we have.

Not me, not anymore, I'm done. Ive voted in every election since I was 18, I'm almost 48 now. Next election I don't think I'll waste the time or gasoline to go to the polls. :grr:

27. I might do that
I'll have to calm down a lot first, if I did it now I'd probably wind up in jail. I've really had it. I graduated high school in 1982 and have struggled my ass off for damn near 30 years in this ever deteriorating, Reaganomics- poisoned country. All I've ever asked of the democratic party is to stand up and oppose that flawed line of reasoning. After all the contributions in money and effort I've made it comes to this. I'm just sick over it :(

I go between despair and a kind of 'well what the fuck else am i gonna do???" attitude.

I'm just too pissed off to quit. I'll look at this defeat like a boxer's cold slap in the face - invigorating!

In the end, I know the policies of FDR are the best way to save our country. In time, we will be on top again, I firmly believe that.

Senator, PLEASE Filibuster the debt bill. It will instantly
turn our unheard pleas into a shot heard round the world.

We can get our message out, and with it weild some real progressive power.

Progressive solutions are the best solutions for a free Democracy.

Of course, I assume you already knew that all of your (and my) SS contributions wound up in the general fund, via T-bills, so there's that.... money's'gone, it's all just debt now, aside from what we're still taking in, but that's going away soon as we already promised much more than we could pay.

Very annoying.

38. The theft of the Social Security taxes that we paid all these years
is the most regressive tax ever.

This is outrageous.

This is not just a blow to FDR's great contributions to the country, but a roll-back of the concept of progressive income taxes.

Outrageous.

39. So does anyone still imagine we live in a democracy?
And next year, we'll have to dutifully march like lemmings down to the polls to legitimize our plutocratic prostitutes because, no matter how much they sell out, they're still "better than the alternative" and better than Michelle Bachman is apparently the best we can do in this country.
