US soldiers arrested over new Fort Hood plot: report

WASHINGTON — Three US soldiers were arrested for allegedly plotting a new attack on Fort Hood, the Texas base where a former Army psychiatrist went on a deadly rampage in 2009, a report said Thursday.

Fox News, citing an unidentified army source, said that a US soldier who had gone missing without official permission was captured off the base and is being held by police in Killeen, Texas.

The television network said that two more soldiers were arrested when they were found with weapons and explosives. It said it had the men's names but was withholding them.

A US Army spokesman at the base could not immediately be reached for comment early Thursday.

Pvt. Nasser Jason Abdo, an AWOL soldier from Fort Campbell, Kentucky, was arrested by the Killeen Police Department near Fort Hood and remains in custody there. Authorities, however, will not say if Abdo is the one who raised security concerns.

An AWOL soldier from Fort Campell is in the custody of the Killeen Police Department amidst allegations he was planning a second attack on Fort Hood.

The man was arrested Wednesday afternoon on a child pornography warrant, according to a KPD spokeswoman, who would not confirm or deny the terroristic threat.

A Fort Hood spokesperson said an arrest was made yesterday by KPD on a soldier that's not from here, but did not have additional details. He said national media is "reporting something we haven't heard about."

An AWOL U.S. military service member has been arrested near Fort Hood with explosives and weapons in his vehicle.

The Army solider was arrested by the Killeen Police Department, according to the Public Affairs Office at Fort Hood.

The solider, 21-year-old Pfc. Naser Abdo, was stationed at Ft. Campbell, Ky, and returned from a tour in Afghanistan on July 4, according to KXAN-TV. Abdo applied for conscientious objector status last August, which was approved this spring. The military has not been able to discharge Abdo because he is facing a court-martial for allegedly having child pornography on his military computer.

The big Hezbollah dude, Nasrallah, has a compound name: Nasr Allah. His name means "God's Aid" or "God's Help." The root nSr means "to help, aid" in Arabic. Common enough name, in one combination or another. (Lots of names we think of as being one word are compound: Ahmedinejad is Ahmedi Neejad; think of it as being like "Billy Bob" or "Joe Pete".)

Employees at Guns Galore, a popular Killeen firearms shop, alerted police to Abdo after he made a purchase there, officials said. Guns Galore is the same store where Maj. Nidal Hasan purchased the gun, ammunition and laser sights that witnesses testified he used during the Nov. 5, 2009, shooting massacre at the post.

Abdo, whose hometown is Garland, entered the Army in March of 2009 and was assigned to the 101st Airborne at Fort Campbell, Ky., when he went AWOL on July 4, Wright said.

While serving at Fort Campbell, Abdo told ABC News that “no Muslim should serve in the U.S. military” and said his faith had pushed him to file for conscientious objector status. His scheduled deployment to Afghanistan was deferred, an Army spokesperson told ABC News at the time.

George Wright, an Army spokesman, said Abdo was granted conscientious objector status shortly before he was charged with possession of child pornography in May. Abdo underwent an Article 32 pretrial evidentiary hearing in June and was recommended for a general court-martial. But before the trial began, Abdo went AWOL, Wright said.
