Obama Backs Reid Debt Plan; Will Address The Nation At 9 p.m.
Source: USA TODAY

President Obama will address the nation tonight at 9 about the debt ceiling debate, hours after his team endorsed the debt reduction plan put up Senate Democratic leader Harry Reid over the one from Republican House Speaker John Boehner.

"Senator Reid's plan is a reasonable approach that should receive the support of both parties, and we hope the House Republicans will agree to this plan so that America can avoid defaulting on our obligations for the first time in our history," said a statement from White House spokesman Jay Carney.

"The ball is in their court," Carney added.

Obama and aides had criticized Boehner's plan because it calls for a short-term increase of the $14.3 trillion debt ceiling by up to $1 trillion, along with $1.2 trillion in budget cuts; a second round of debt reduction would take place next year in 2012, an election year.

5. The Reid plan ...
... is the Pat Buchanan plan.

This 'plan' is pretty much what Pat Buchanan on MSNBC has been saying for weeks would be the Repuglican's game ending proposal.

The Boehner plan is even worse ... it wants Obama to go through all this again next April!

Let's face it ... Pres. Obama has blown this badly. He should have laid down the line months and months ago that a clean debt ceiling rise would be all that he would sign. Period.

Instead, he decided to play 'deficit hawk' on the Tea Party battlefield, and he's going to get his ass kicked.

11. That was Boehner's argument yesterday!
Boehner recounted to participants on the call what he told Obama.

“As I read the Constitution, the Congress writes the laws and you get to decide what you want to sign,” Boehner said, recounting what he told the president, according to two sources.

Ha!

Whose side are you on?

Barack Obama as a Democrat elected to the presidency is the leader of his party ... HE is supposed to lead the "weak dems" in Congress.

Sheesh.

Just plain old political analysis is now characterized as the province of "24/7 haters"!!!

22. Actually Pelosi blew it...
Pelosi had an opportunity to raise the debt ceiling prior to the election of 2010. She didn't want Democrats to have voted to increase the debt ceiling and risk losing the election. All this could have been avoided if she had shown leadership.

4. Obama must want Reid's plan to tank.
Either that or he's the only person on the planet that doesn't know that the Republicans will never approve of anything he endorses.

6. And the winner?
Republican Bush and Democrat Obama bought the bankers and
wall-street debt from the crash they caused and now they want
to pay for it with Social Security and Medicare funds. Their
corporatist party wins.

16. I put my bet on the following happening. Obama will deceive the
Party once again--and cave. When we are nearer to default, Obama one day will give a speech about how we are in a crisis and, hence, I have to take the most productive path and cut entitlement programs. This is what he will do, further assuring severe pain to old people and no chance of re-election for himself. This strategy will have been laid out months ago.

17. OK, nicer now
The people putting down Obama on this plan, should look a little closer. The Tax cuts expire next year anyway, so ther is the Revenue. The repubs still will have to defend cutting SS in 2012. This is a good deal. x(
