Boehner: House GOP willing to compromise on debt
Source: AP

WASHINGTON (AP) — House Speaker John Boehner says House Republicans are willing to compromise on a budget deal to increase the government's ability to borrow as long as the package does not include tax increases.

Boehner told reporters Thursday that most House Republicans want to find accommodation with Democrats on the budget package passed by the House Tuesday that would raise the debt ceiling only after Congress passes a balanced budget constitutional amendment.

The Senate is taking up the package Thursday. When asked whether House Republicans would refuse to compromise on the package, Boehner said, "I'm sure we've got some members who believe that, but I do not believe that would be anywhere close to the majority."

Boehner continued to draw the line on tax increases, saying he would not support them.

Got that? They're willing to compromise, as long as they get exactly what they want.

4. Fuck you, Kraft mac&cheese chemical orange powder weeping dumbass. Just FUCK YOU!
Edited on Thu Jul-21-11 11:51 AM by HopeHoops
Negotiate THAT, asshole. Can't the Republicans find ANYONE intelligent to run on their ticket?

On Edit: It is probably a good thing I'm not the president right now. I'd probably say something like that to his orange face. I'd also be likely to drop kick Cantor's sorry ass into the Reflecting Pool and then regret it because of the layer of slimey ooze he'd leave on the surface. That would cost some serious money to clean up!

24. Well, to be fair, the store brand mac&cheese is about the same color as Kraft - just cheaper.
And by a SHITLOAD!

Same basic ingredients. Same poisons. Same fat & sodium. Same bat station. Same bat channel. Same cooking directions. Just cheaper.

But being a Republican, he takes his chemical orange powder bath in the expensive brand-name stuff. And of course, Santorum won't use the store brand lube. He HAS to have K-Y for his "frothy mixture".

9. Democracy is when the House controls the Senate and White House apparently.
Upside to conservative economics: once U.S. wages sink below Chinese sweatshop levels, all those manufacturing jobs will come back to the U.S.A.!

10. As long as there is no tax increase anywhere, the GOP will spin it as a win for them.
That is what happened with the government shutdown in Minnesota where Governor Dayton insisted there should be increased taxes on the rich and Republicans insisted there would be no new taxes. So Dayton agrees to a compromise where there are no new taxes.

Guess how the Republicans are spinning that? The same thing will happen with the debt ceiling if there is a compromise with no new taxes. Republican spin: they win, Obama blinked.

11. Is this attempt to make Repugs sound like the reasonable ones...
Edited on Thu Jul-21-11 12:19 PM by AlbertCat
... going to work?

I don't think so.

It's just an attempt to make the Dems look like the ones holding things up.

It is true that the general public seems to be stupider than I can imagine, but I really don't think this will work. All but the 30% that think the GOP is great still know this is a GOP manufactured crisis.

I hope I'm right.

But Jesus on a ritz! What will it take for a majority to realize that the GOP/Teabaggers CANNOT (and will not) govern? That they do not DO anything. What do they ACCOMPLISH?

19. It's time they primary the Tea Party
A quarter of the US HOUSE holding the world economy hostage is absurd. Their oath to Grover Norquist trumps their oath of office. The Tea Party is a disgrace to sane people. :puke:

18. Exactly
The Republicans want what they want, and what they want is for Democrats to call what they do a compromise, even though it's no such thing.

Their idea of a "compromise" is an 80/20 split. They get the 80, of course.

20. If we had to balance the budget, it would be necessary
to end the wars that are being paid for with credit and taxes would have to be raised on the rich. They don't understand what they are asking for. There is not enough money in the social programs to come anywhere close to balancing the budget. All their special projects and pork would end.

25. Republicans can say whatever lies they want and the media immediately blasts them verbatim
Let's find "accommodation with Democrats" as long as Democrats completely fold and we get everything that we want.

They're now trying to use the tactic of running out the clock. It worked in December on Bush tax cuts so they want to get away with it again.
