'Young Turks' Cenk Uygur Out At MSNBC
Source: deadline.com

Cenk Uygur's run at MSNBC sure was short.

The news network says that it has "decided to make a change" at 6:00 PM ET, the time slot when since January Uygur has hosted MSNBC Live.

"It's unfortunate that Cenk has declined our offer to have him develop and host a program for another time slot," MSNBC adds. The Turkish American radio talk show host plans to hold a teleconference with the press on Thursday...

Reportedly, MSNBC wanted him to "tone it down" and have more Republican guests on the show.

15. Yeah, but BS-RNC loves their Morning Ho...
As Kos said, Morning Ho calls the shots at BS-RNC. Haven't wasted any time watching them since Keith left.

Hopefully, Cenk will get a gig at Current.

28. MSNBC goes with the WH and with Presidential popularity polls, but always leans right.
Edited on Fri Jul-22-11 10:08 AM by No Elephants
In the early years of the Bush Presidency, it's line up began with Don Imus and ended with Dennis Miller. Solid neocons from morning until night.

Phil Donahue had been fired for opposing the Iraq War months before the invasion began. We had such gems as Tucker Carlson. And the tingle in leg of chameleon Chris Matthews then was caused by Dummya. Matthews said he voted for him twice and "I'm a lot more conservative than people think I am."

As Bush's popularity ratings fell, and we got Olberman, (then Rachael, then Schultz), and Scarborough was moved from afternoon (Scarborough Country) to early morning. However, we kept Morning Shmoe, added Chuck Todd, another Republican, and Libertarian Dylan Ratigan from CNBC.

IOW, MSNBC is, as it told Cenck, part of the Establishment. I would add, a heavily right leaning part of the Establishment.

Thanks for the run down though.
Didn't know they were (even) more conservative and just changed with the public tide.

5. Heaven forbid a show that is supposed to have a point of view not pretend it is fair and balanced.
MSNBC is run by NBC News.

NBC News makes a show (literally and figuratively) of being objective, but is Republican.

Anyone who watches Meet the Press under Gregory, or under the more skilled at deception Tim Russert, carefully knows that NBC news actually leans so far right it's amazing we don't have to put right ear to right shoulder to watch it without getting dizzy.

Funny thing is, Cenk used to be a Republican himself, like Ed Schultz. Maybe they were both hired on the assumption they were probably at least conservadems?

So, Cenk's big fault is he didn't have an "analyst" like Pat Buchanan on often enough? Good for him.

The Corporate Media wants to drum out every last Progressive/Democratic voice & idea. They're trying to manufacture a right-of-center country (through hokey "bi-partisanship," of course).

38. Not sure if you get LinkTV or Current TV? Democracy Now has been my go to source for years.
But, I agree with you (I think) that the mainstream media is trying to keep the money flowing to sponsors and it certainly seems like a shame that more mainstream people won't get to hear people further left of them to understand how 'in-the-middle' Obama really is. For 'better' or 'worse'.

Someone puts it on one of our Community Access channels.

Problem is, it's opposite Today, Good Morning America and the Early Show, so it does not get much viewership.

(Not sure if right of Reagan is in the middle, though, LOL)

34. Saw him take the leader of the progressive caucus to task. Dam, that was good work.
Congressman Earl Blumenauer (D-OR) was talking a buncha baloney about how we should raise the SS age because, you know, people will probably be living longer by then blah blah blah...the leader of the progressive caucus is saying this!

And Cenk was just vigorously shaking his head the whole time the guy is talking
and blasted him back to reality when he finished. "No, no, no. See..."

I'm 100% sure things like THAT are why he won't last at the rah-rah stations. He's not a cheerleader.
I really, really enjoyed his shows. He's a national treasure. Seriously. I don't say that often.

14. I'm rarely able to watch anything in that time slot
Because it's 3 in the afternoon here and I'm usually doing something else. Besides it's sandwiched in between two of MSNBC's worst hours - the two showings of that repulsive douchebag Chris Matthews. So I don't quit what I'm doing just to watch.

But I have to say the few times I was able to watch I was impressed with Cenk and hopeful that he was going to be a permanent addition to the lineup.

Sharpton ?- I don't know about him. He's feisty and entertaining in small doses but I'm not sure that's enough to sustain viewers over the long run. Besides, the same people who got rid of Olbermann, Phil Donohue and Cenk will undoubtedly eventually find a way to slide him out the door as well.

30. He did that only after he was fired So who burned what?
Edited on Fri Jul-22-11 10:21 AM by No Elephants
I think his speaking up about being fired because the WH wanted him to shut up and sit down is very important and brave, just as Phil Donahue's speaking up about being fired because of his opposition to the Iraq War was important and brave.

Maybe he is more concerned about getting the truth out there than he is about his next job?

And maybe, once the fix is in, what Cenk says or doesn't say may not matter much anyway.

Shuster didn't badmouth anyone after Hillary got him fired. AFAIK, he still has no show, even though CNN had been looking at him before he got fired.

Here's hoping Cenk, Keith and Shuster end up together, soon to be followed by Shultz and Rachel. Then MSNBC can sink into its preferred Republican swamp for all anyone cares.

31. They Asked Him to Stay -
“It's unfortunate that Cenk has declined our offer to have him develop and host a program for another time slot.” http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/live-feed/cenk-uygur-exits-msnbc-213624

As for Shuster, he made a choice to break his contract rules and got caught. CNN was under no obligation to hire him, and MSNBC had every right to fire him.

I am grateful for MSNBC and Current. We need all the help we can get considering the right dominates the radio airwaves.

Broadcasting is an ugly business, gossipy, political, ego maniacs galore, greed.

39. Their asking him to stay did not negate their demand that he change his tone about Obama.
Edited on Sat Jul-23-11 11:08 AM by No Elephants
He refused to be censored at the whim of the WH. Good for him. That is so contrary to the First Amendment it isn't funny.

Moreover, his ratings in his existing time slot were excellent for MSNBC and he had just developed a show.

Further, you don't know all the terms their offer.

"We need all the help we can get considering the right dominates the radio airwaves."

The reason Cenk got fired was that that he was not sufficiently to the right.

I do not want this country to keeping heading toward what is, in essence a one party system with the complicity of the media. Me, I'm grateful for anyone who speaks truthfully against that--and I don't think Cenk is the one being deceptive here.

I stand corrected on Shuster, but who can seriously blame Shuster for trying to line up another job?

32. Did I Accidentally log on to the FREEPER Site?
MSNBC is the only network I get here that does not chant a constant mantra of RW propaganda ,sound bytes, and Koch sponsored commercials. Our stations(both of them) and our only real paper here are all owned by Newscorp.
I don't always agree with the the networks lineup but We need every single voice we can get to pull down the curtain on the singleness of purpose the
rw has. "Take our country back".

Back to 1928 when it was King to be Rich and White. The old and poor groveled in the street and you could pump sewage into the drinking water.

Go back and follow this thread. This is EXACTLY why we can no longer advance any progressive agenda in this country.
