Aids meeting opens in S Africa

The South African Government is expected to come under increasing pressure to implement an HIV/Aids treatment policy at a conference in Durban which begins on Sunday.

The South African health minister is expected to address the opening session, but she is unlikely to be given a warm reception by delegates critical of the government's strategy.

More people are infected in S Africa than in any other country
Demands for treatment are mounting, with many organisations calling for a policy of antiretroviral therapy to stop the millions of South Africans who are HIV-positive from dying.
