American owners behind anti-McGuinty ads in Windsor

The U.S. owners of a popular bridge that is a vital artery between Windsor and Detroit are behind an advertisement aimed against Premier Dalton McGuinty.

Dubbed a “Bridge to Nowhere,” the television ad claims the Windsor Essex parkway, about to be built by both Ontario and Ottawa, is a $2.2 billion waste of money.

The parkway will eventually lead to a new bridge over the Detroit River linking Windsor and Detroit.

The ads are paid for by the Canadian Transit Company, the firm that owns the Canadian half of the Ambassador Bridge. The Ambassador is owned by wealthy U.S. businessman Manuel Moroun and family.

1. Don't be too surprised by the possible alliance of the Koch brothers with Maroun.
At a poorly attended Teabagger rally in Lansing in May, many of Koch's baggers were carrying prepared signs defending the Maroun position on the new bridge.

2. Ontario hated Mike Harris in the end. Let's hope these American neocons
go all out against McGuinty. It will backfire.

Actually, the "bridge to nowhere" ad was on the other side of the border; the ones on this side are "road to nowhere".

Otherwise, they're kinda identical ... obnoxious corporate interference in the political process ...
