Hoekstra to announce he'll challenge Sen. Stabenow

Washington— Former U.S. Rep. Pete Hoekstra is expected to jump back into the race against Sen. Debbie Stabenow, The Detroit News has learned.
Hoekstra, R-Holland, considered a run against Stabenow, D-Lansing, earlier this year but announced in April that he wouldn't launch a campaign, saying his family opposed a run. Other big names followed suit, including former Secretary of State Terri Lynn Land, GOP committeeman Saul Anuzis and Rep. Thaddeus McCotter, R-Livonia, the 11th District congressman who's now running a long-shot bid for the White House.
But Hoekstra reversed course after seeing a dearth of qualified candidates with statewide name recognition and fundraising ability step up to run, and a hard press from state party officials, said one top Republican source in Washington who asked not to be identified since Hoekstra has yet to make his announcement public. Such an announcement is expected soon.
A knowledgeable House Republican aide told The News that Hoekstra called Michigan House Republicans to say he was running.
