SYDNEY -- Investigations are progressing into the U.S. operations of News Corp. after the UK phone-hacking scandal, U.S. Attorney General Eric H. Holder said in Australia on Friday.

“There have been members of Congress in the United States who have asked us to investigate those same allegations and we are progressing in that regard using the appropriate federal law enforcement agencies,” Holder told reporters.

2. Who wants to bet the neocon-friendly DOJ finds "no evidence of wrongdoing"
in their "probe"?

3. Do they get a chance to investigate?
The idea that the outcome is known is ridiculous.

6. I simply asked if someone wanted to bet on the outcome
that is not making a concrete pronouncement, it is simply expressing MY OPINION as to the outcome.

9. 9/11 families have called for it too
http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0711/58887.html

Angry family members of victims of the 9/11 attacks and a growing number of lawmakers on Wednesday called for a U.S. investigation into allegations that journalists at the British News of the World tabloid sought to hack the phones of their lost love ones.

“Someone should look into it to see if their rights were violated – the family members I’ve talked to are appalled, they’re disgruntled, they have to relive the pain all over again,” Jim Riches, a former deputy chief in the New York Fire Department whose 29-year-old fireman son was killed in the attacks, told POLITICO.

screaming "political persecution yet?" :eyes:  And how long before they have their spin meisters and sheeple viewers pressuring the Justice Department into dropping the whole thing? Which DOJ will be IMHO more than willing to do.

12. I was elated to read the words "US News Corp. probe under way," but I shuddered when I read "Holder"
Yeah, I know, I'm pre-judging, but Eric Place Holder is a vast failure disappointment to me- the biggest disappointment of the Obama Administration.

13. How will they ever know?
Phones from 10 years ago? How could they possibly track down any records or evidence?

I haven't followed the UK story all that closely, but it seems to me that there were whistle blowers over there. If I am wrong, I am sure someone will correct me shortly.

If the US doesn't have former/disgruntled employees, how will they be able to prove someone's voicemail was hacked especially given that the phones themselves probably doesn't exist anymore and the phone numbers have likely been transferred at least one time.

15. Paging Senator McCain, Please Pick Up the White Courtesy Telephone.
But U.S. Senator John McCain, who sits on the committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs, on Thursday said he had not heard any evidence of News Corp wrongdoing in the U.S.

"I have heard of no evidence of allegations yet of anything being done in the United States of America," McCain, a Republican from Arizona, said.
