Colombian union renews Coke suit

Coca-Cola is facing a renewed legal challenge from a Colombian trade union that alleges the beverage giant has been involved in the deaths of union members at its Colombian bottling plants.

The union, Sinaltrainal, plans to file an amendment to a lawsuit in Miami federal court on Monday, claiming that Coca-Cola, along with its bottling partners, is responsible for the deaths of activist members at Coca-Cola bottling plants.

The group alleges Coca-Cola and its bottling partners condoned and supported right-wing death squads that attacked or intimidated union members.

Coca-Cola called the amendment "frivolous" and said the plaintiff and attorneys were "just trying to generate publicity" days before the company holds its annual general meeting on April 21. Betty Liu, Atlanta
