Beef from Fukushima found with high levels of radioactive cesium
2011/07/10

The Tokyo metropolitan government on July 8 detected levels of radioactive cesium 4.6 times the national standard in meat from a cow raised in Minami-Soma, Fukushima Prefecture, officials said.

The beef, from the neck of an animal raised at a Minami-Soma ranch, showed cesium levels of 2,300 becquerels per kilogram. The national standard is 500 becquerels.

Metropolitan government officials said it was the first time radioactive elements at levels exceeding national standards were detected in beef.

Meat from 10 other cattle from the same ranch were also sent to the slaughterhouse and tested, officials said.

1. What about the fish and seafood?
With the uncontrolled "leak" into the sea and ocean, has marine life been tested (besides the whales)?

is really upsetting to me, I don't think that seaweed is safe, I don't think seafood is safe, not off Japan's coasts.

10. You know... I didn't want to say anything...
but if it's 4.6 times the safe limit... then raise the safe limit 8.12 times! Then it's half of the safe limit and everything is fine.
Just like my mom said when I moved out of her basement at age 31, when all else fails, lower your standards.

5. I was talking with someone in the Seaweed business Yesterday.
He's the inventory control manager for incoming product for processing and deals with the Harvesters. He says the Japanese Market is booming, but by next Year, the demand will have outstripped the supply. There has been an established Supply Chain From Maine to Japan for many Years. Sea Urchins and Seaweed have been major products.

6. In other news, water is wet.
Of course Fukushima beef is radioactive. The question isn't whether beef from Fukushima is dangerous; the question is whether it's safe in California, New York, Europe, etc. Because of Fukushima, the government of France recently advised its citizens to avoid dairy -- from France!

They said they would eat it themselves. This is very worrisome to me.

12. Cool! Cuts down on cooking time.
Because I've been totally convinced by the pro-nukes that radiation is really yummy and everything I was taught during the Cold War about the dangers of nuclear fallout was just anti-nuke propaganda.
