Greenland ice melts most in half-century: US
Source: AFP

Greenland's ice sheet melted the most it has in over a half century last year, US government scientists said Tuesday in one of a series of "unmistakable" signs of climate change.

"The world continues to warm," the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration said in a briefing paper for reporters.

"Multiple indicators, same bottom-line conclusion: consistent and unmistakable signal from the top of the atmosphere to the bottom of the oceans."

An annual climate survey, which includes work by scientists from 45 countries, said that ice sheet in Greenland melted at its highest rate since at least 1958, when similar data first became available.

1. Greenland completely thawing would be VERY bad for anyone in the northern part of the world.
There's enough fresh water in Greenland's glaciers to shut down the northern portion of the Gulf Stream. Countries such as England would suddenly have a MUCH colder climate.

5. Yeah, cause
GLOBAL WARMING IS A CONSPIRACY ?

Wow. Shocking.

In Australia acceptance of climate change has gone from 68% to less than %48 after a massive campaign from the right wing opposition party.

Just so we are all clear on things, having spent the better part of two decades researching this, there is little chance of society surviving the next two decades without total collapse - well - according to the science, if thats worth anything at all anymore.

10. There was a 50 year delay in Global Warming effects ...
Edited on Thu Jun-30-11 01:29 AM by defendandprotect
we are only now feeling the effects of human after after 1960 -- !!

Imagine all that occurred after that time!!

Of course, the glaciers were melting -- but the effects that the public were feeling

wasn't really sufficient to raise more than suspicion/concern -- and the 50 year

delay gave the oil industry time to spend tens of billions of $$$ to confuse and lie

to the public -- it succeeded. Tens of billions buys a lot of Goebbels's style

propaganda!

Also repeating for anyone who doesn't know this yet -- besides droughts/foods, storms,

hurricanes, cyclones, tornados -- changes in wealther systems overall --

glacier melts will also bring more earthquakes as the pressure of the glaciers shift

from tectonic plate to tectonic plate -- from glaciers the size of Rhode Island and

Manhattan already having fallen -- to the water weigh being shifted.

11. since prevention has failed, we have to be looking at mitigation
So far, with all the BS about "it's happening/no it isn't/yes here's the evidence/lalala I can't hear you" that constitutes our national "dialog" about AGW, damn little time has gone into "what will we do if the oceans rise by a foot, on average, worldwide?" let alone "the oceans went up 3 feet, now what?"

That has to change. We're headed for a massive population displacement unlike anything seen before. Where will the people go? Who gets priority relocating? Do we build dikes and set up huge pumps to reclaim the lowlands? Do we need to establish waterschappen in any state/province/nation with a coastline? How will the populations assigned to concentration camps be pacified? At some point, the mass media is going to have to stop lying to people about the threat and deal with the consequences of its willful inaction -- probably by lying again...

"The avalanche has started. It is too late for the pebbles to vote."
