Mahoney says he won't take direct role in Supreme Court investigation

The sheriff investigating allegations that state Supreme Court Justice David Prosser put a "chokehold" on a fellow justice says he has distanced himself from the day-to-day operations of the case after questions were raised about his objectivity because he endorsed Prosser's opponent in the recent election.

Dane County Sheriff Dave Mahoney said Tuesday that he turned the case over to his chief deputy and will have "no role in the assignment of detectives and supervisors or overseeing the investigation."
.......................

Mahoney issued the statement after some conservative critics raised questions about whether he could objectively investigate the incident because he endorsed Prosser's challenger, Assistant Attorney General JoAnne Kloppenburg, in the April election.

........................

But Scot Ross of One Wisconsin Now said conservatives never raised alarm bells when Prosser was ruling on the controversial collective bargaining law even though he had been endorsed by numerous Republican lawmakers, including Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald, R-Juneau.

"politically charged" investigation is an understatement!

1. Understatement indeed. I've been blogging on jsonline today...
...and the vitriol was disgusting, although it's calmed some now.

Interesting that there was a fairly large core group of posters who defended Judge Prosser attacking Ann Bradley under the premise that "she deserved it".

They were called on it time after time, and re-worded their posts again and again, but couldn't shake their own belief that she goaded him into it somehow.

Even if that doubtful claim were true, it says that Prosser's self-control is similar to that of a drunk in a bar.

The "she deserved it" meme was disgusting. I alerted more this morning (abusive language, advocating violence) more than I have in the past six months.

3. The paid trolls are well-known on the jsonline blogs....
Polish Hussar
Harley Ultra
Patriot 101
Galt
Mr Right
Diamond Doyle
Tax to the Max
jdizzleMKE (to keep straight from jdizzleNYC no doubt

and a new one today, Vince Shamwow.

Sadly, alot of posters besides the known trolls were using the "she deserved it" arguement.

4. Anyone who says she deserved it automatically disqualifies themselves as being credible
& sensible.

And these nutbag comments are everywhere. It's like walking in a field of cow patties.

5. When you put your hands on another human being,
you'd better have their permission - be checking for a pulse or respiration - or be arresting them or escorting them as an officer of the law.

8. Yeah, I don't post for the benefit of the trolls, but to make sure their lies are challenged...
...and it's plain fun to tweak them.

Thanks for all your posts on Wisconsin politics. I appreciate your activism.

10. As I posted here the other day, even if she somehow "goaded" him into his reaction
There was another course of action he could have taken, it's called a step backwards. That's correct, he could have been the bigger person and stepped back from the confrontation, like most reasonable adults would do. Instead, he assaulted her because he's a big old bully who seems to have gotten pissed that the "little lady" didn't back down.
