Fischer begins US Senate bid to oust Ben Nelson
Source: Associated Press

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — State Sen. Deb Fischer touted her legislative experience Tuesday in kicking off her campaign for U.S. Senate, a bid that brings to five the number of Republicans now vying to unseat Democratic Sen. Ben Nelson.

Fischer said she decided to seek the nomination at the urging of supporters and constituents.

"I made this decision after a lot of encouragement from many, many people," Fischer said minutes before her announcement.

About 60 people attended the event at Anthony's Steakhouse in Omaha on Tuesday morning, although most were reporters, family members of Fischer's or those associated with her campaign.

Progressives: "Good Riddance to Nelson"!

Moderates: "Best Democrat we could elect".

Progressive: "Elect a REAL Progressive"!

Moderates: "So you'd rather have a Republican instead"?

Okay, that should cover the first twenty posts.....

8. yeah that pretty much sums it up
ie we currently have a Conservative controlled congress. very few liberals in congress. If we actually had a Liberal congress starting in 2008 we'd be far better off. Alas Ben Nelson isn't even a moderate. He's a Right Wing Democrat. So in this case whats the change. Heck the Republicans that are running are probably more left wing than he is.

9. I would rather see the knife coming myself instead of in the back
Tell me the difference between having a Republican instead of a Republican that calls himself a Democrat. Neither are good for America.

4. And when the republican wins he helps the gop control the committees.
That is the only value has. If that happens we cannot even get our bills onto the floor for votes.

5. Perfect example of cutting off your nose to spite your face.
You could get along without your nose of course. But it does have some limited function, other than just to make your face look normal.

But I can't remember when I didn't hear Nelson's name mentioned, that I didn't follow it shortly with a groan - What has he done now?

Is it not possible to get him primaried? Sounds like it might be a good time, since the Republicans will also be divided over their nominee choice.

Maybe the real thing to do is to keep him, but get Harry Reid/Obama to quit appointing him to vital postiions.

6. Nelson should be primaried and gotten rid of
we need someone to work for us, not against us. Six years is a long time to put up with his republican blackmail tatics. Sooner or later he will have to be replaced anyway, the state should have someone who can challenge him as a progressive.
Get with it and FIND that person.:dilemma:

10. I got 1 on 1 time with US Senator Nelson because his office knew I run the DU Labor Forum

I posted about it a 6 weeks ago or so. We had a progressive (Kleeb) run for Senate in Nebraska. He was a rancher with a well know politically active wife. He lost 60-40. Get my drift?
