Florida Highway Patrol almost disbanded
Source: Palm Beach Post

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Florida Highway Patrol troopers came close to wearing the green uniforms of Sheriff’s deputies this past legislative session.

The jobs of more than 1,500 troopers were almost given to local sheriffs.
It would have been the biggest outsourcing in recent history and it was backed by Governor Rick Scott. It was the sheriffs, not the patrol that pushed back and said no.

.....

When state government reorganized in the late 1960s, law enforcement agencies were purposely kept apart so no one agency would have total control.

Governor Rick Scott side-stepped the question of why he was willing to transfer the patrol to local sheriffs, and instead talked about what he hopes the study finds. “It’s good to have a conversation about how can we do a good job with what the state ought to be involved with in law enforcement.”

9. I'm trapped here
1) underwater home
2) inability to sell in this crappy housing market, anyway (1 in 10 homes in my county are empty)
3) no jobs anywhere else to impel me to move (and consider walking away from nos. 1 and 2)

Scott is destroying this state bit by bit. We here are the unfortunate victims of the ignorant and ill-informed voter.

11. My sympathies
But he's not destroying it alone...those voters that elected him are just as responsible as are those asshats that control your state legislature, also elected by the same voters that put your "Imperious Leader" into the governor's mansion.

Florida is screwed...and only the voters of Florida can unscrew it, but what are the chances that'll happen?

Good luck.

16. Vermont is sounding awfully good to me.
Don't know if dh could handle the cold, but we lived in NH for awhile early in our marriage and it shouldn't be any worse.

14. Oh God, I so agree
As one suffering Floridian to another, I'm just waiting for my life circumstances to change then my husband and I are so OOH (out of here)! We are currently considering Belize or Peru. Living in a state with Rick Scott as the head is just plain torture, it's totally inhumane. Even my right wing Christian Coalition mom (who sickeningly enough voted for the ass) hates him now. He's an obvious cancer on our fair state and by the time he has gutted it for his own profit, don't know when we will even begin to recover.

17. We also know many who regretted voting for that prick...
but I am tired of people who choose to ignore any sense of reason and vote complete idiots into office.

3. Not surprising given his recent track record
Sad that so many voters refuse to educate themselves and we are stuck with a Corporate thug.

7. Remember the good old days before Jebbie got into office? Florida was
moving toward the future in education, law enforcement, and growth containment so that some of Florida was left?

How did Republican governors ever get the idea that becoming governor gave them absolute rights over the state?

These people, like Scott, Walker, Snyder, etc., and their supporters are not about political ideology at all. They have no political aims at all. They are are for themselves first, and for those who make it possible for them to take whatever they want second. The rest of us are below last -- they may not want what is left over (what little of it, that is), but they sure as hedoublel ain't gonna let us have it either.

10. Why should I care which color my speeding ticket comes in?
I'm glad I live in a city with its own police force which keeps both the Sheriff and State Police presence to a minimum.

15. If you've paid any attention to the news in Madison, WI over the past 7 months
you'll know why it's important to have separated powers of jurisdiction within police forces.
