Prosser Allegedly Grabbed Fellow Justice by the Neck
Edited on Sat Jun-25-11 09:09 AM by eowyn_of_rohan
Source: Wisconsin Center for Investigative Journalism

Sources say authorities are looking into altercation in Supreme Court chambers
By Bill Lueders
Wisconsin Center for Investigative Journalism
June 25, 2011 Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice David Prosser allegedly grabbed fellow Justice Ann Walsh Bradley around the neck in an argument in her chambers last week, according to several knowledgeable sources.

Details of the incident, investigated jointly by Wisconsin Public Radio and the Wisconsin Center for Investigative Journalism, remain sketchy. The sources spoke on the condition that they not be named.

They say an argument that occurred before the court’s release of a decision upholding a bill to curtail the collective bargaining rights of public employees culminated in a physical altercation in the presence of other justices. Bradley purportedly asked Prosser to leave her office, whereupon Prosser grabbed Bradley by the neck with both hands.

Justice Prosser, contacted Friday afternoon by the Center, declined comment: “I have nothing to say about it.” He repeated this statement after the particulars of the story — including the allegation that there was physical contact between him and Bradley — were described. He did not confirm or deny any part of the reconstructed account.

104. Barbara Wirth filed a complaint about this election having a poll
receipt with votes calculated with a March 30 date, but no one could explain why. I sure would love to know how many votes were on that poll receipt. I think this reason via Barb Wirth is a reason for the DoJ to investigate this election... Another reason is to find out why the GAB purchased Enron's consulting firm Aurthur Anderson now ,Accenture, and it's machines shown to be hackable with ease....

Take Accenture, for example. Its track record seems less than sterling. In The Public Interest, a site that scrutinizes privatization, notes that Accenture is:

formerly the consulting division of Arthur Andersen, which dissolved due to its role in the Enron scandal. Accenture was spun off before the scandal following an acrimonious falling out and protracted legal dispute with Andersen. Accenture went public in an IPO in July 2001 in which Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley were its lead underwriters. It had over $25 billion in revenue in 2008. Domiciled in Bermuda but headquartered in New York, Accenture has 170,000 employees and offices in 200 locations in 50 countries, including in over 30 cities in 23 states in the U.S. . . .

Its work in the public sector is a bit checkered:

Over the years it has been involved in a number of controversies and scandals in its public sector consulting. The Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) denounced the company (then Andersen Consulting) in 1999 for a litany of poor outcomes, including intense scrutiny in Ontario, where the provincial auditor concluded the consulting firm's $180 million contract to reform the welfare system was "riddled with loopholes, unaccounted for costs, and inflated fees." The company was also involved in contracts with New Brunswick to reform their social assistance program and justice system. The social assistance reform required workers to spend no more than 4.5 minutes per month with each client. Persistent delays and escalating costs were associated with the justice system reform. It cost the government $3 million to get out the $60 million contract.

More recently, in 2007 the state of Texas cancelled a five year $889 million contract with Accenture to run call centers for the state‘s children's health insurance program after enrollment plunged, in part due to staffing shortages. Accenture has been the subject of a steady drumbeat allegations of improper billing, cancelled computer services contracts (most notably in Wisconsin, with the failure to get a computer voter tracking system in place in time for the November 2008 elections), overbilling tied to conflicts of interest, data breaches and other contract failures. Kathy Nickolaus did when she found 14,000 votes 2 days after the election. Why the DoJ has not looked
into the obvious election fraud I don't know.

BTW too bad Judge Prosser didn't try that shit w/ a man and get the ass kicking he deserved.

It's mind boggling to me that anybody would vote for Prosser. But I live in a state that elected the first Republican majority legislature in over 100 years. They just passed their first budget. It's what we would expect.

I just don't understand how so many people can be so......stupid.

74. You're about to repeat
the same mistakes you made in your recent state supreme court election.

So long as the voting machines operate with proprietary software, are programmed by the manufacturers and cannot be audited against voter receipt ballots that are deposited in secure ballot boxes, you have no power to insure an honest election.

Until you can stop vote caging, role scrubbing and other disenfranchising schemes you have no power to insure an honest election.

Unless you demand that large discrepancies between exit polls and vote counts are investigated seriously you have not power to insure an honest election.

Until you can ensure an equal per population ratio of voting machines in Democratic districts you cannot ensure an honest election.

Until you can stop Republicans with voter challenge lists from creating long delays or forcing those challenged to use provisional ballots you cannot ensure an honest election.

Until you can stop the cops from setting up blue light barricades near polling places in minority precincts you cannot ensure an honest election.

Until you can stop Republicans from making mass mailings to poor people telling them that the election will be on Wednesday or that they can't vote if they've ever been convicted for a misdemeanor you can't ensure an honest election.

79. Thanks for your input. Those are all serious problems - I agree
They primarily address issues surrounding Rethugs efforts to suppress voters. They are attempting to pull some of these things for the recalls. EG, they are only opening 1 polling place out of 6 in the city of Glendale. They have hastily passed laws that require voters to have lived in the voting district for 28 days - up from 10 days. They have limited the time allowed for absentee voting from 4 weeks to 2 weeks.

In this past election, more damage may have been done through election fraud than through "voter fraud". That is, through hacking the machines, and replacing ballots.

We have countless people trying to stay on top of all these issues, and we're fighting with all we have. We appreciate your support.

166. The thing a lot of people don't seem to get about the 'blue light barricades'
is that they don't just intimidate people who have wants or warrants out against them. People think, well, if they aren't wanted for anything why would they be scared away?

The fact is, if someone with a SIMILAR name is picked up, he will at the least lose the day as he's carted downtown and sat in jail, waiting to prove he's not that person. And there's always the chance they CAN'T prove they are not that person. They may spend days, or weeks, in jail trying to clear themselves, and while they are there they are not earning a living, paying their bills, and maybe they're losing their jobs.

So, seeing the barricade, they go the other way.

Either way, they don't get to the ballot box. And far more turn away out of caution than would actually be stopped and detained.

Mission accomplished.

15. Lots of reasons why it is so close and why people still ....
... vote against their own best interests (aka vote republican)

They are from a family or a community that voting republican is seen as the right thing to do.

They are white.

They get their information from Fox News and Rush.

They are Christian Conservatives.

They buy the lies that are told to them by the corporate media and the rich.

They are racist and or homophobic.

They are scared.

For Kloppenburg to come from over 30 points back and run the kind of race she did against an incumbent
Supreme Court Judge was amazing especially considering that those kind of races are low voter turn out
races historically.

63. If you want to steal an election, but you don't want the mechanism to be obvious, you make it close.
Stolen elections need to be close to prevent investigation. Saying "It shouldn't even be close" promotes the idea that the election is on the up-and-up.

For example - here are some presidential returns.

Adams & Pinckney also received 65 & 64 Elec Votes

1876 Hayes/Tilden 185/184 PV 4,033,768 to 4,285,992
Tilden won PV (majority) but lost the Electoral College vote

1960 Kennedy/Nixon 303/219 PV 34,226,731 to 34,108,157

1968 Nixon/Humphrey 301/191 PV 31,785,480 to 31,275,166
Wallace received 9,906,473

1976 Carter/Ford 297/240 PV 40.830,763 to 39,147,973

159. That's not irrelevant to my point, but it's not my point.
I didn't say that there haven't been close elections before. What I said was that if you want to hide stealing an election, you make it close. You don't want to leave obvious evidence of tampering. An analogous conundrum is the problem that the Allies had when they broke the German codes in WWII - if they were too successful/obvious in outmaneuvering the Germans they would have revealed that they had broken the code, and the game would have been up

You're making a false argument if you're saying that close elections and election-stealing are unrelated simply because they can happen independently. You're also misunderstanding my argument if you think that the existence of close elections before the e-voting era proves that e-voting is safe - it proves no such thing.

Prosser acknowledged in March that he called Chief Justice Shirley Abrahamson a "bitch" and threatened to "destroy" her during a closed-door meeting.

At the time, Prosser told the Journal Sentinel that the outburst to Abrahamson came after the chief justice took steps to undermine him politically and to embarrass him and other court conservatives.

"In the context of this, I said, 'You are a total bitch," Prosser said. "I probably overreacted, but I think it was entirely . . . warranted. They (Abrahamson and Bradley) are masters at deliberately goading people into perhaps incautious statements. This is bullying and abuse of very, very long standing."

In a March interview Bradley said Prosser had flashes of extreme anger on and off over the years.

“It’s been going on for years off and on,” she said in March of Prosser’s outbursts.

This is from JSOnline, and it richly illustrates an abusive misogynist projecting his own bullying behavior onto his victims. There is NOTHING "Honorable" about that man, and he needs to go.

just "goad" him into doing childish, disprespectful, and violent things.

How could it be that such a lamb could have been appointed (Wisconsin elects these guys?) to the Supreme Court while two diabolical women made it there, too?

If this is the best, finest Republican they can find to put on their court in Wisconsin, what the hell are the abject failures like?

In March, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported that, in a disagreement over a case last year, Justice Prosser had called Justice Abrahamson a "total bitch" and threatened to "destroy" her. Prosser, the paper reported, confirmed making the remarks, saying he "probably overreacted" while accusing Justices Abrahamson and Bradley of being "masters at deliberately goading people into perhaps incautious statements."

30. So I guess verbal assault does not apply
such as calling a colleague "a Bitch"

Chapter 60 states that judges are required to “uphold the integrity and independence of the judiciary” and “avoid impropriety and the appearance of impropriety” in all activities. And Chapter 62 requires judges and other court personnel to “be civil in their dealings with one another” and “abstain from any conduct that may be characterized as uncivil, abrasive, abusive, hostile or obstructive.”

35. A deeper meaning than we want to admit
This is what faces the progressive movement once the Republican ideological thugs are bounced from power for being a sham---they will resort to violence. Once there are no more means to get their way, they will become violent because they do not have the capability to negotiate.

They are truly violent and uncontrolled at heart, and when respectful discourse fails, they will show their true colors.

That does bring up another point. As a member of the judicial system, if she doesn't report it, how can she expect the average working class woman to report abuse? She's GOT TO REPORT THIS.

PROSSER ALLEGEDLY CHOKES JUSTICE BRADLEY

It is being reported that Supreme Court Justice David Prosser put both his hands around the throat of fellow Justice Ann Walsh Bradley in an argument in her chambers last week, according to several knowledgeable sources. It is apparent that Prosser has a lack of temper control as this will be the second alleged instance of his violence against women in chambers.

99. Yes - it was always our vacation favorite. Door Co, Milwaukee? Now NEVER!!
We used to nip up to Milwaukee several times a year and go to the outlet mall, walk around by the lakefront and all and 'would go once or twice to Door County for a week and go out to our favorite restaurants, etc.

Those days are over. Now we are thinking of Vermont.

Between boycotting Wisconsin, Michigan, Ohio, Tenn - its not easy to leave Illinois anymore. Plus we loved that Wisconsin had progressive roots - what on earth has happened?

67. imagine if the local limbaugh station went after prosser- he'd be gone quick
imagine if the local blowhards on the madison limbaugh station, WIBA 1310, which broadcasts U of WIS athletics along with their racism, union bashing, global warming denial, and getting walker's back, used the next week to go after prosser for doing that. he would have to resign- that is what they would force if it was the other way around.

instead, they will probably use the community standing they get from their association with the university to attack bradley and make excuses for prosser.

if they do attack bradley the madison community has no excuse for not picketing that radio station.

Left wing media my ass. No I know which ones are the left wing media. MSM is not left wing. It's still usually ratings based but since Fox it's been more and more right wing.

This is what happens when there are no checks and balances in a state. Republican controlled Gov gets away with anything with a Republican controlled state congress and they can get away with anything because the Supreme Court is tilted right. Fortunately in Iowa our state Congress isn't fully Right wing.

So there's a budget battle going on. Unfortunately we somehow were idiots and decided to remove 3 justices based on a vote which unlike WI isn't what IA does. So 3 people who were put there by some guy called Terry Brandstad and were very pro family... and are sorely missed by many were replaced by some guy called Terry Brandstad o_O

all this because some idiot called vander fucks (sic) thought he'd be Gov.

142. in light of anthony weiner this dwarfes that problem...
if anyone else had done this (if true) it's likely he'd be spending the night in jail first then questions later. Thats simply not done. Like okay bunch of Europeans get into a man fight. ho hum. But you go to a female's quarters and pull a neckhold we look very bad. He'll have to be forced to resign. That will snowball right into Walker's lap, signed and delivered. I do understand the no comment thing. It's an investigation. Anyone watch CSI?

We don't need to be pulling a Casey Anthony snafu here. Where in that trial I haven't seen anything horrid against the mother (nor good) but the parents look far worse than they did before.

Suppose the brain dead folks figured and prayed to the wrong god that Prosser's anger management issue's would disappear if he came so close to losing that they had to give him a stolen election. I'd be wondering though how the woman who found the missing votes on Access is feeling at this moment. Supporting this man who shouldn't be anywhere near females. Always hear the complaints about why should we care about people who abuse animals. cause they would do the same to humans. Say wonder if Prosser has ever kicked a dog?? I've seen someone do that. Although heard a story of an uncle doing that. ALbeit he was an idiot for buying the min pin from a puppy mill. so it has a bad temperament :( I can't really go against him right now. 1. he's a vietnam vet, 2. the hospital screwed up and he lost his leg about a decade ago and his terminally ill. But he is an abuser and why she won't leave him I don't know :( I'd assume it's because of their location. an A frame house in the hills of Colorado. Very cheap house on very very expensive land. That thing would be bulldozed the moment anyone leaves it and sold for a million dollar home.

Like Weiner, he needs help. and being on the BENCH is preventing him from doing this. Hate to say this but he's gonna make Clarence Thomas look good (grrrrrr) this isn't even an ethical problem. Its abuse and I don't tolerate that shit. I get pissed enough when I see others yell at others (for example when I worked at the paper, having a supervisor yell at the part timers for something that isn't their fault.

One of my cousins (she's kinda off kilter now :( ) but earlier last decade she was nice. Then married this punk. Who eventually almost killed her. I woulda loved to have taken a wooden baseball bat down there and knock his head off. You don't treat women that way. Wanna go play with the guys and have a punch fest fine. leave the women out of it.

Did Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice Prosser Physically Attack A Fellow Court Member?
Jun. 25 2011 - 2:07 pm | 127 views | 1 recommendation | 3 comments

An investigation by Wisconsin Public Radio and The Wisconsin Center For Investigative Journalism has uncovered three ‘knowledgable sources’ who allege that Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice David Prosser grabbed fellow Justice Ann Walsh Bradley around the neck during an argument in her chambers last week.

Well, that’s not something you read everyday.

While Prosser has been unwilling to either confirm or deny the report, the matter has allegedly been turned over to the Wisconsin Judicial Commission who is charged with investigating incidents of judicial misconduct.
..............................

The report also suggests that there were other Justices present when the reported altercation took place..............................

The other justices in the room, they did nothing about this until now when it became public? What the hell is going on in the judiciary in this country? Prosser, Thomas, these are justices in a state and the U.S. Supreme Court. THEY SHOULD KNOW BETTER THAN ANYONE WHAT THE LAW IS AND THEY SHOULD THEREFORE CERTAINLY BE HELD TO THE HIGHEST STANDARD REGARDING ALL OF THEIR ACTIONS.

Could be a signal that a Faux affiliate is reporting on this. It might mean that the Kochs and their team (and the boil that sucks their butt, Walker) have decided that this incident is too expensive to their agenda. Prosser resigns, he's set for life for doing so (Koch $$$$) and Walker appoints someone worse. And life goes on as usual.

165. “masters at deliberately goading people into perhaps incautious statements.”
In March, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported that, in a disagreement over a case last year, Justice Prosser had called Justice Abrahamson a “total bitch” and threatened to “destroy” her. Prosser, the paper reported, confirmed making the remarks, saying he “probably overreacted” while accusing Justices Abrahamson and Bradley of being “masters at deliberately goading people into perhaps incautious statements.”

Sounds like he has a problem with them being better jurists. Kinda like Perry Mason versus Ken Bowden.

Needless to say the idea will be spread through the echo chamber faster than a TARP relief payment can be scooped up by Ron Johnson

MADISON, Wis.—A Wisconsin Supreme Court justice has accused another justice of choking her during an argument in her office earlier this month—a charge her colleague denied.

Supreme Court Justice Ann Walsh Bradley told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel that Justice David Prosser put her in a chokehold during the dispute. She contacted the newspaper late Saturday after Prosser denied rumors about the altercation.

"The facts are that I was demanding that he get out of my office and he put his hands around my neck in anger in a chokehold," Bradley told the newspaper.

Prosser said in a statement the allegations "will be proven false" once a "proper review of the matter and the facts surrounding it are made clear." ...

186. T'aint the first time Prosser lost his temper -
Supreme Court tensions boil over
Prosser says he was goaded into insulting chief justice

Prosser acknowledged the incident recently and said he thought it was becoming public now in an attempt to hurt him politically. Prosser faces Assistant Attorney General JoAnne Kloppenburg in the April 5 election.

He said the outburst came after Abrahamson took steps to undermine him politically and to embarrass him and other court conservatives.

"In the context of this, I said, 'You are a total bitch,' " Prosser said.

"I probably overreacted, but I think it was entirely warranted. . . . They (Abrahamson and Justice Ann Walsh Bradley) are masters at deliberately goading people into perhaps incautious statements. This is bullying and abuse of very, very long standing."

Mixed in with a lot of 'who as me' bullshit, but he seems to admit to having a weak mind.
