25. In a 3 week period
Delta managed to lose my luggage 5 times. Nothing like giving a lecture in a polo shirt that was washed in a sink.

11. You better re-read the Constitution
Nothing in the Constitution prevents a company from anything. It only limits what the government can do.

13. Which is the main reason for all the privatization
When the companies own everything that matters, then there will be no limits on how we can be betrayed and abused and deprived.

And we'll have nothing with which to fight back.

Everyone who bought into that is a traitor.

17. it violates the Civil Rights Act, flying on an airplane is a public accomodation
i really get annoyed when posters like yourself are so adamant about things you dont' know, especially when that opinion states that one doesn't have legal protections they do have.

21. Not true at all
The Constitution grants broad authority to Congress to enact laws, laws that touch directly on persons. The revolutionary generation had no understanding of what corporations would become, but they did fear what they might become: if corporations are persons, (which was only established by the SCOTUS, BTW, not Congress) then Congress has the same right to enact laws that tocuh them as they do other people.

Of course, in practice, corporations enjoy public policy advantages that individuals do not, and this is why you see so many laws that benefit them and so few that limit them, but there's not constitutional reason why this would be the case.

3. I'm getting so fucking tired of religious fanatics!
I don't give a damn what fucking religion (or non-fucking-religion) it is.

I have to ask one of you kind DUers to clarify for me (the link crashes me), this is just a policy of SA AIRLINES, right? The Saudi government isn't actually promoting this. Right? If so, then I have a whole other fucking issue to deal with in my head.

4. Plenty of Jews visit Saudi Arabia.
Non-Islamic religious books are not allowed to be imported into Saudi Arabia. Israeli-stamped passports are not allowed, but simply being Jewish hasn't precluded entry into that country. Are people going to argue that US airlines should not cooperate in providing service to Saudi Arabia?

28. Any data? "Plenty of Jews visit Saudi Arabia."
The Saudis DID prohibt Jews from entering the kingdom, including military, until the past few years. It was even on their fucking website! It was removed in 2007. It is still a mixed bag, and SA requires a statement of faith on Visas to that country.

7. You can't hold the airline responsible for the idiotic visa rules in SA
All Delta (or any airline) can do is check you have a Visa/Passport to go. The rules for getting the visa are between the person and the government they are trying to visit. Once they have a visa, then it's not like the airline is adding another rule on top of that.

15. Fuck 'em. Let them do it.
I'm certain someone's going to come back with "there are many beautiful things to see in Saudi Arabia." I am certain there ARE, but there are many beautiful things to see in countries that aren't run by religious fascists.

There are about two reasons to go into Saudi Arabia if you're not a Saudi national: to do business with the oil companies they have there, and the Hajj. If Mecca and Medina weren't in Saudi Arabia, no one who's not buying oil or selling oil extraction equipment would go to that fucking place.

So...let's let the Saudis restrict their backwoods shithole all they want. Let's let them keep out the Christians and the Jews and the Hindus and the Sikhs, and all their 2000-year-old books of fairy tales. And let's figure out how to get the Fischer-Tropsch process (which turns coal into petroleum products) cheap enough no one will have to buy oil from SA anymore. And then they can make the big decision: do they liberalize their government and join the civilized world, or stay like they are and go back to nomadism within 25 years?

18. Oh good grief...
Delta, you stepped in "it" with the stupidity of charging our soldiers for some of their luggage...and had to back peddle like MAD.

NOW you are going to be in the midst of another pile of crap.

Does your management NEVER, EVER learn?

...guess not...hope you can keep the engines on the wings.

Seriously. I mean, I understand that non-Islamic books are not allowed, but what about all those books that people are now accumulating on their smart phones and kindles and iPads? Do they check for what you've got on those devices?

27. We all opened the door to this religious intolerance.
Did anyone here respond that orthodox Jews shouldn't put on tefillin and pray during a flight?

Did anyone apologize for pilots that "felt uncomfortable" with religiously garbed Muslim passengers?

Well, that's not too far from this.
