Sarah Palin snub by Margaret Thatcher aides infuriates US rightwing
Rush Limbaugh joins supporters accusing Thatcher's circle of disgracing former PM with 'Palin is nuts' comment
Nicholas Watt, chief political correspondent guardian.co.uk, Thursday 9 June 2011 20.39 BST

A firestorm on the US right has erupted after the Guardian reported that Sarah Palin will be denied a meeting with Lady Thatcher on the grounds that it would be "belittling" for her to meet the darling of the Tea Party movement.

Rush Limbaugh, the conservative radio host, devoted the opening section of his radio show to denouncing the "preposterous" Guardian report, as Palin supporters accused Thatcher's circle of disgracing the former prime minister.

The US conservative right reacted furiously after the Guardian reported that Thatcher's aides had decided it would be inappropriate for her to meet Palin, who is planning to visit London next month en route to Sudan. Palin has been touring US historical sites (an excursion that saw her slip up this week on the subject of Paul Revere, the American patriot who made a famous "midnight ride" to warn of approaching British forces).

One Thatcher ally told the Guardian: "Lady Thatcher will not be seeing Sarah Palin. That would be belittling for Margaret. Sarah Palin is nuts."

Let me get this straight. She is going to stage an Independence Day event in London. And she does understand American History - she said so the other day.

An Independence Day event in London.

amazing.

Although Lady Croft knows stuff, like facts and history and such that Lady Palin never had any inclination to learn. So they might not have much to talk about.

What they have most in common is that neither one is real.

159. Palin makes Thatcher look like a lady by comparison
Palin's nothing but a self-centered, childish, personality-disordered publicity hound. If Thatcher, a die-hard conservative, refuses to meet with Failin, that ought to open the eyes of the average American to Failin's true nature: a dangerous excuse for a woman.

I never connected Palin to the Beverly Hillbillies, but it fits, don't it? I can see her riding atop her bus with the entire brood of Tarp, Trip, Tig, Mig, and Meth joining in the fun of celebrating our Independence day in Britain. What could go wrong? She should be allowed to address the House of Lords/Commons and give them the real facts, as she knows 'em, on the Revolutionary War. First Dude can explain why he's a big supporter of modern day secessionist movements, too!

Edited on Thu Jun-09-11 06:02 PM by Hubert Flottz
John McDrysdale opened a can of pure old BUSHit when he let Pandora Barbie on his bus. From the day her water broke back in Texas that time, she's been spreading her toxic waste far and wide. She won't be happy until she has the teabaggers all screaming "Kill Him" again this cycle. She tries her best to ignite the right. She won't be happy until she starts another Civil War. I know Bush was stupid, but I think Sarah is even more ignorant and selfish.

I think the next batch of Palin whelplings will be the twins, Plasma-arc and Carbon-arc, or maybe 7018 or 6010. Maybe the Palins should move to Hobart or Lincoln?

132. It was Independence Day for Israel
that day. She wore it to show solidarity. As a Jewish woman I don't find it exactly insulting (anyone can wear what they want) but find it pandering of the worst kind as I understand it's an entirely selfish support. While she and her evangelical supporters purport to support Israel, it's merely so Israel is in place for their end times nonsense. They'll be perfectly okay when (in their sick minds) Jews will be cast into the pits of eternal fire for not buying into the Jesus myth. My family in Israel calls them useful idiots.

Alaska poised to release Palin emails

By BECKY BOHRER, Associated Press Becky Bohrer, Associated Press – 18 mins ago
JUNEAU, Alaska – The state of Alaska on Friday will release thousands of Sarah Palin's emails from her first two years as governor, a disclosure that has taken on national prominence as she flirts with a run for the presidency.

The emails were first requested during the 2008 White House race by citizens and news organizations, including The Associated Press, as they vetted a vice presidential nominee whose political experience included less than one term as governor of Alaska and a term as mayor of the small town of Wasilla. The nearly three-year delay has been attributed largely to the sheer volume of the release and the flood of requests.

Alaska is releasing the more than 24,000 pages of emails in paper form only and asking news organizations to pick up several boxes worth of documents in Alaska's capital city, accessible by only air or water. Reporters from several news organizations have already begun arriving in Juneau and are making various plans to disseminate the emails to the public.

Palin told Fox News Sunday that "every rock" that could have been kicked over to uncover things in her family has been. But she also said "a lot of those emails obviously weren't meant for public consumption" and that she expected people might seek to take some of the messages "out of context."

That dimwit Palin is, truly, a piece of work. Andrew Sullivan is so right on:

"As usual, the tired old bigoted comedian Rush Limbaugh took offense that anyone could call Sarah Palin "nuts," even though she is quite obviously a few sandwiches short of a picnic, and her grip on reality is, shall we say, tenuous. And as usual, Limbaugh blamed it on the left, i.e. the Guardian's Wintour/Watt blog. What he doesn't understand is that Palin's nutsiness is not a partisan matter in Britain, or anywhere else in the world. It is an obvious truth marveled at by all. Palin's emergence as a serious figure in American politics has made the country a laughing stock across the world. The idea that a stateswoman like Thatcher, in advanced dementia, would be used by such a crackpot is simply unseemly."

77. Palin replies: "This is not over!"
"Was it over when the Germans invaded the Falkland Islands?"

Loved this from the article: La Donna Hale Curzon, the host of Sarah Palin Radio, accused the Thatcher circle of disgracing the former prime minister. "Margaret Thatcher would never call a fellow Conservative, let alone Gov Palin 'nuts'," Hale Curzon tweeted. "Thatcher's handlers have disgraced the Iron Lady."

Unless Palin has changed her citizenship lately, she's nowhere near a British big-C Conservative. She's an American far-right Republican. Big difference.

For one...well, two...things: in 1968 Thatcher voted to legalize both abortion and homosexuality in the UK.

How messed up is this country's psyche that hardly no one but the Rude Pundit and Jon Stewart are calling out this ignoramus? What a dingbat. And to think we'd give her enough time of day that she has even a twinkling of a chance of making decisions that could affect every American.

Someone needs to do a parody of this clown. Something along the lines of how she'd address the nation on the eve of some war she has declared. I could see her pointing at Venezuela when talking about troops in Kirkuk.

OK, you can die now Margaret.

128. Not quite true
Thatcher was a right-wing as any US Republican. However, that was then, and the electorate has largely rejected that sort of thinking now, which is why David Cameron had to pose as a kinder, gentler sort of Tory in order to get elected (after which his true colours soon showed).

140. Not quite..

Thatcher was a very close ally of Reagan, and was very much a radical right-winger in the sense of wanting to actively abolish existing progressive measures, rather than just resisting new ones.

Tories are a wide spectrum and range from those who are more like moderate Democrats to all too many who are very much like right-wing Republicans economically and socially, though usually without the RW religious fervour (but some even have that) and without the obsession with guns and physical aggression.

Maggie was very right-wing economically and in her general vision for society. I consider her to have been HUGELY destructive to Britain. It is fortunate that we had a welfare state already in existence, so that even she could not demolish/prevent it altogether, even though she caused major damage to it. She also caused major damage to our industrial base, creating massive unemployment at the time, and increasing our dependence on the banking and financial sectors for the future, with results now all too obvious.

However, her IQ was much higher than Palin's (I say 'was', as she is now cognitively impaired after a series of small strokes - still may be more compos mentis than Palin, however!) She graduated in a science subject from Oxford at a time when this was *very* unusual for women, especially those who like her did not come from wealthy backgrounds - so she undoubtedly had a brain, even if she used it in completely the wrong way. And, again unlike Palin, she was very hard-working and anything but a quitter.

117. I read the freeper thread on this a couple days ago.
The posts ranged from denial (Liberal media is making this all up!) to anger (Fuck the UK and all the brown people there!) to acceptance (This doesn't matter anyway, "Saint Sarah" will become president anyway and lead us to a land of rainbows and honey!)

Kind of like the stages of grief, but with a twist of retard.

135. Good for Lady Thatcher. The vast majority of people
living in the civilized world think she's nuts, and people who choose to give her the time of day ARE belittling themselves. She doesn't have a strong following in America, although you'd never know it by her overblown ego and grandiosity. Her only value to society is that she provides excellent fodder for late night comics.

from the Guardian article and this one made me laugh out loud:

Sarah Palin is bright, fresh voice in American politics. She is a modern woman with a grasp of the down-to-earth concerns of typical Americans. She would make a wonderful candidate, and the Republican Party should rally behind her as their 2012 Presidential nominee.

(the above paid campaign message has been brought to you by the Committee to Re-elect President Obama)

154. "Margaret Thatcher would in no way allow an aide to refer to anybody, Sarah Palin notwithstanding"
as 'nuts'."

Thatcher and Reagan's political, social and fiscal legacies have proved toxic to the middle classes in both the US and the UK. Scarah just obviously wants to use her in a photo op for the purposes of furthering her own personal and political agenda. Anything that Thatcher said to her that was even barely coherent would be construed and spun by her and her teabagger supporters to make it appear that Thatcher fully and completely supports Palin. She would dig up "Saint Ronnies" corpse itself, if she believed that she could derive some type of monetary and political benefit from being photographed with it, and if she could get away with doing it,IMO.

156. My question is -
now that a visit with Lady Thatcher has been declined, will Sarah the Pee ask to meet with the Queen? I'd love to know what Her Majesty's view of former Gov. Palin is - Liz has dealt with a number of famous statesmen over the years, like Churchill, and she keeps up with the news. Officially she may not have a position, but I understand that unofficially the Queen most certainly does - her take on Sarah would be priceless. Perhaps someday we will. Until then, have fun stormin' the castle Sarah!
