Heavy smoke in metro area & around New Mexico

This smoke is the result of large fires that became extremely active Thursday in eastern Arizona.

The city of Albuquerque is requesting not to call 911 or 311 to report smoke as callers are clogging emergency telephone lines.

1. Came in quickly too...I was outside at about 6:30 PM yesterday and didn't notice anything

Went inside and when I came back out about 8 it was so bad I assumed it was from close to here; at least the Jemez or something.

Edited to explain for those not familiar with New Mexico, that I mean the Jemez Mountains not too far from Albuquerque .

i am a COPD patient and i have to pay attention to the air quality.. it was very heavy here around sunset last night..i don't remember anything that bad including the big bosque (deciduous forest, around the Rio Grande) burns several years ago..thank god the air quality while not perfect is much better today..

6. Yeh, we got quite freaked out here at the southwest tip of Fanta Se, too...

Went out to grill dinner, all was copacetic. Go in and eat, watch a DVD, and turn to each other "What's that smell? Smoke?" It was really strong for awhile there, around 9:00 - 10:00 p.m.

We did call the fire dept non-emergency number to see if there was a grass fire in the area or something, got the weary-sounding response, "No, Ma'am, there are no fires in the county right now, what you're smelling is the Arizona fire."

Still wafts through occasionally this morning.
