Republican Legislators Push to Tighten Voting Rules
Source: NY Times

Less than 18 months before the next presidential election, Republican-controlled statehouses around the country are rewriting voting laws to require photo identification at the polls, reduce the number of days of early voting or tighten registration rules.

Republican legislators say the new rules, which have advanced in 13 states in the past two months, offer a practical way to weed out fraudulent votes and preserve the integrity of the ballot box. Democrats say the changes have little to do with fraud prevention and more to do with placing obstacles in the way of possible Democratic voters, including young people and minorities.

The next break in this democracy from our Right Wing crypto-fascists

1. It is the wholesale election fraud that is the problem.
Paper ballots and mandatory recounts if there are any questions about voting.

3. ALEC 'model legislation' @ work
CAN'T THE WH or ANY one in a position of power do SOMETHING to stop this.

This is the most dangerous thing the RW has been able to effect TO DATE.There has to be a quick, concerted, and effective

way to prevent the implementation of these bills or we are really doomed.

It is truly scary, and if these laws are passed and hold up in 'court', it is done.

This is a REAL threat-to everyone.

Does anyone have any ideas re: what action is being taken by the administration..etc to forestall this and stem the tide
: any organized and co-ordinated volunteer efforts on the local levels.

Thank you

4. Not a hell of a lot the administration could do....
As long as these laws doesn't violate the constitution it's up to individual states to make their rules. We just went throught that in Georgia, the picture ID law was upheld in court (and everyone knows we have such a horrible voter fraud problem with those pesky elderly voters and their phony electric bills they tried to pass off as ID)

8. True enough.
Now if it was something like requiring a test on say the constitution as some have proposed then the DOJ might be able to get involved.

I agree, word, this is the worst threat.

Should examine acts in each State, not all of which will probably pass con'l test.

9. It is never fraud...
if they get their way.
The Right wing fascists know full well that a few more elections leaning toward the people will be the end of the republican party.
They feel that unless the flood of "others" voting is stopped the the right wing conservative agenda will be moot.
That is what all the anti-union and anti-voting action is all about. Their noise machine also demonizes anything other than their agenda and turn people off from participating in politics.
People must ignore the noise and separate the truth from the lies. And most of all vote and assist others in voting.
One more thing, quit trying to micromanage your elected representatives. No one does exactly as you want them to, so trust them (him) to do the correct thing.

10. IMHO, our recent crypto-fascist justices
respect precedent> overturned 100 years worth with the Citizens United case, will uphold these vote depriving laws despite a lack of evidence that any significant voter fraud exists.

They lied under oath and they violated, once again IMHO, the federal judicial code with their Federalist Society contacts, leaving them with the appearance of bias. I believe these are impeachable offenses. TIME TO RAISE THE HUE AND CRY INSTEAD OF PLAYING NICE NICE!
