House bars U.S. ground forces in Libya
Source: AP

WASHINGTON — The House has overwhelmingly backed a measure barring any taxpayer dollars for U.S. ground forces in Libya.

On a vote of 416-5, the House backed the measure which also applies to private security contractors. The lone exception to the measure would be to rescue a member of the U.S. forces in Libya. The measure is part of a larger House defense bill that also needs Senate approval.

Lawmakers have complained that President Obama has ignored the 1972 War Powers Resolution, failing to seek congressional authorization for the U.S. military operation in Libya.

4. This is terrible! We need that funding. Ghadaffi is on the Run...we CANNOT CUT OFF FUNDS...

I hope that Harry Reid is on this and will fix the vote so that this doesn't stand. It's terrible. We need to Remake the Middle East and getting Osama and all the money we spent is just now beginning to show results.

It would be terrible for the Global Economy and our World if we stop funding for our Wars. It would be devastating.

I feel confident that "cooler heads" in the Senate will prevail to shoot down this ill-advised fake vote in the House that was a "fake out" token to "some small group of leftover 60's Type Hippies" who might not vote in 2012 for Dems.

Pandering to "Hippies left over from the Jane Fonda Party" is ridiculous for our Dems to do. They better stay strong so that they can defeat Sarah and the other idiots of the Right Wing. And, Harry Reid will be our HERO.. He's not going to stand for this shit House Vote!

USA...USA....

6. Is this part of the defense bill that passed today?
If so there is also a clause in the bill that prohibits the POTUS from reducing nuclear stockpiles. Ripe for a veto if you ask me.

http://www.upi.com/Top_News/US/2011/05/26/House-bars-ground-troops-in-Libya/UPI-92371306408338/

WASHINGTON, May 26 (UPI) -- The U.S. House voted 416-5 Thursday to bar the Obama administration from placing ground troops in Libya.

The vote was the latest indication of congressional concern the administration might be thinking about expanding the role of the U.S. military in North Africa, The Hill newspaper reported.

The amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act was sponsored by Rep. John Conyers, D-Mich., and followed a Wednesday voice vote to accept an amendment from Rep. Scott Garrett, R-N.J., saying the NDAA does not authorize further military action in Libya.

Here's an article by Conyers discussing his Libya amendment.

Here's the house roll call of the vote on the Conyers amendment: the five nays were: Steve King (R-IA), Dana Rohrabacher (R-CA), Shelley Berkley (D-NV), Gwen Moore (D-WI), and Jim Moran (D-VA). So both the liberal Moore and conservative King support ground troops in Libya?

The amendment : "...to prevent funds authorized in the Act from being used to deploy, establish, or maintain the presence of Members of the Armed Forces or private security contractors on the ground in Libya unless the purpose of the presence is to rescue a Member of the Armed Forces from imminent danger."
