Jim Glade

The Prosecutor General Wednesday charged the ex-director of Colombian intelligence agency DAS and former President Alvaro Uribe's chief of staff for ordering the illegal wiretapping of government opponents.

According to Prosecutor General Viviane Morales, former DAS director Maria del Pilar Hurtado and former chief of staff Bernardo Moreno ordered the spying on supreme court judges, journalists, human rights workers and opposition politicians.

Both officials were charged with conspiracy, the illegal interception of communication, abuse of public power and fraud. In addition, Del Piliar Hurtado is charged with embezzlement and falsifying a public document.

Morales charged the former DAS director for conspiracy for allegedly organizing the illegal operation against magistrates, journalists and the political opposition in September of 2007. The prosecutor general also accused Del Pilar Hurtado of ordering the illegal interception and recording of persons close to Senator Piedad Cordoba and Gustavo Petro as well as using DAS funds to pay her sources.

2. Slim, None
and Slim was just fished out of the Pacific Ocean.
An apparent suicide. Three bullets to the back of his head and a large chain was wrapped around his legs.

4. After the Colombian paras slit him open end to end, pulled out his entrails so he would sink,
just the way they do the others, if they have the time.

3. lThey got the female out of the country to gain asylum in Panama, so she wouldn't have to stand
trial. I believe I read Uribe went to confer with Panama's President Martelli about it. (Uribe's own cousin, Mario Uribe Escobar, connected to the narcotrafficking death squad butchers tried to hide out in Costa Rica and they wouldn't take him.)

It's hard to anticipate if they are going to be too afraid of Uribe, and his friends in scary places, to fall apart and blow the whistle, or afraid of the newer President and the new Colombian government.
