Tens of thousands march in Spain to protest against austerity measures, banks, politicians
Source: Associated Press

MADRID — Tens of thousands of students, social groups and unemployed Spaniards rallied in more than 50 cities on Sunday to protest against government austerity measures and the role banks and political parties have played in the financial crisis.

The events were organized by two activist groups under the banner of “We aren’t merchandise in the hands of politicians and bankers.”

-------

“We the unemployed, the badly paid, the subcontracted in precarious jobs, the youth of Spain, want change and a future with dignity,” said Ines Bajo, 24, who is unemployed.

-------

“For those who say that Spaniards are passive, here’s evidence that things are starting to change,” Luis Morago, 44, who is unemployed.

4. The banksters and the multi-national corporations are acting in solidarity, witness the taxpayer
bailouts around the globe, why can't the working class act in solidarity?

7. They can't just march for one day......one day can be easily ignored....
they have to keep going out there day-after-day-after-day until they get what they want. Recent events in several places around the globe have proven this to be effective and solidifying.

Marching for one day is actually very demoralizing when "nothing comes of your effort", especially when a person is really *stretching themselves* going out to a march in the first place (which would be true of the Spainards and true of people in MOST places around the globe).

8. Billy, if you substituted "we" for "they"
it would be just as true. WE need to unite, no matter what your political persuasion, if you are suffering . This suffering is unique to the non-wealthy citizens of the world. It is past time WE add our name to this list of inhumane suffering.

This must be a trans-continent (plus Alaska and Hawaii) demonstration that lasts until it is effective. We could do this as we can if necessary. We can (must usually) still earn or fulfill our obligations and, if necessary, Demonstrate in shifts or whatever is necessary. That we get our message through to the ruling elite, and they act on it, is what is important.

A response of force or negative consequences should only double our resolve.

Non-violence (IMO) will be the most effective. Who can fight a country that spends more than all other nations combined, on "defense?"

When the world PTB realize that they have global discontent and demonstrations, they will be forced to accede important accommodations, fight or abdicate.

Either way, WE WIN. If they fight and we remain peaceful, day after day, they lose.
