Diary: Bin Laden eyed new targets, big body count
Source: Associated Press

WASHINGTON – Deep in hiding, his terror organization becoming battered and fragmented, Osama bin Laden kept pressing followers to find new ways to hit the U.S., officials say, citing his private journal and other documents recovered in last week's raid.

Strike smaller cities, bin Laden suggested. Target trains as well as planes. If possible, strike on significant dates, such as the Fourth of July and the upcoming 10th anniversary of the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. Above all, kill as many Americans as possible in a single attack.

* * *

He was well aware of U.S. counterterrorist efforts and schooled his followers in working around them, the messages to his followers show. Don't limit attacks to New York City, he said in his writings. Consider other areas such as Los Angeles or smaller cities. Spread out the targets.

In one particularly macabre bit of mathematics, bin Laden's writings show him musing over just how many Americans he must kill to force the U.S. to withdraw from the Arab world. He concludes that the smaller, scattered attacks since 9/11 had not been enough. He tells his disciples that only a body count of thousands, something on the scale of 9/11, would shift U.S. policy.

28. I believe someone thinks there is a post-hoc need to repeat that OBL was a mortal enemy of the state
Which is strange considering that avenging the deaths caused by the 9/11 attacks is really all the justification most Americans need to get a pass on OBL's termination.

It makes me think that some of the people above those directing these 'sharings' of intelligence are not really very secure in their belief that justification was adequate for the military assault and elimination of OBL.

What's behind this continuing need to shore up moral support for what was done?

Is this about the insecurity of our leaders in the truth/truthiness of the justice involved?

Is this about the legal underpinnings of the operation?

Is this about a fear that the public is waking to the undeniable knowledge that our nation's leadership is a capable partner in the personally targeted nature of killing that defines the war against terrorists?

2. Dear Diary...
Dear Diary,

Osama here!

WHAT. A. DAY! The neighborhood kid kicked his soccer ball over our fence again -- destroying my newly purchased life-sized statue of Genghis Khan! What is it with kids these days and their total lack of respect for other people's property? That thing cost me a lot of cha-ching and now it's shattered into pieces on our lanai.

The cable we were stealing from the Pakistani military base down the street cut in and out during my favorite episode of Who's the Boss. It's the one where Angela's ex returns, announces he's marrying again and THEN tells Angela he wants Jonathan to move in with him! The gal of that man! Of course, it all goes to mess when Jonathan throws up all over the place during the wedding ceremony.

Those crazy Bowers!

Anyway, I got to get to bed! I've got a big day tomorrow...Asif Ali Zardari is coming over to watch the Big Game! GO GREENSHIRTS!

Yours always,

Osama

37. Um he's dead. If you want to know who is using fear as a tool, look at Newt Gingrich
with his Dangerous Obama and his Secular Socialist Plan To Destroy America.

Osama is dead, there is not much of a way to use him as a fear tool. That was why Bush probably kept him alive.

4. No ghost-writing involved?
I imagine his diaries including brutal attacks on Mars with a total devastation of Mercury.

Only a planet-count of many would help to shift U.S. policy. OBL had considered just how terrifying his ideas to destroy the Sun itself would have been to his sponsors ... ah, enemies.

Now, back to our regularly scheduled system of financial terrorism where we all get totally screwed into the ground, but with the idea that we are safe, in some way, to be the working poor, homeless, and insecure under the compassionate control of our Corporate Masters.

Now that OBL is dead for the Xth time, we can count on our internal enemy to take us all down into eternal servitude while we indulge in their prolific intrusions into our vulnerable and fertile, (entertain me) imaginations.

Winner takes all, dontcha' know.

He could never figure out a way to top himself. And he was right. Anything less and the American public would say, "That's it? That's all you got? Boy, you're slipping." We judge harshly.

And, of course, the reason they got so tense about backpacks. But even though the people are in a concentrated area, it would still have to be multiple heavy explosives very carefully placed. He couldn't even expect to, say, fly into another tall building and get the same result. The pancaking was part of the WTC's unique architecture. And people aren't docile about skyjacking anymore.

I can see him thinking furiously about all these possibilities. He got lucky and it ruined him. Kinda like those relative unknowns who win Oscars and never work again.

The only way he wins is if we let our idiot media and moronic elected officials (I'm talking about YOU, Chuck Schumer) panic us into more insane and expensive limitations on our freedom.

We can't see the camera's that show a plane hitting the pentagon for our own protection.
We can't see the black orange boxes from the planes that hit the WTC towers for our own protection.
We can't see or hear Gitmo terrorist testimony for our own protection.
We can't see the Wikileaks cables for our own protection.
We can't see a trial of Zach Moussaoui for our own protection.

Yet when it comes to all the plans of the worlds #1 terrorist we can have it all. Tell the whole world what he
intended to do. Seems a bit foolish doesn't it? Our government basically letting all of Bin Ladens followers have
his complete hopes and dreams. Now why would they want to do that?

17. I watched the 911 attack on El Jazeera. I really can't describe it without violating
DU rules about graphic content. Having already seen it on the Today Show the morning of 911, witthout knowing I was seeing a sanitized version, I had no idea what I was in for. It was very disturbing. I wish I never seen it.

That said, government censorshop should be outlawded. Oh, wait, the Framers already did that. The revolutions had recently urged overthrow of the government by violent means, too. Hmmmm.

27. One by one:
"We can't see the camera's that show a plane hitting the pentagon for our own protection."

You can see it. Not very helpful, though. Cameras are slow.

"We can't see the black orange boxes from the planes that hit the WTC towers for our own protection."

You can hear them. They're court evidence.

"We can't see or hear Gitmo terrorist testimony for our own protection."

Again, legal documents.

"We can't see the Wikileaks cables for our own protection."

Prove you can sanitize, get access. This isn't rocket science.

"We can't see a trial of Zach Moussaoui for our own protection."

If you're smart enough, none of this is outside your reach.

If you're not, well, I'm sorry.

44. You missed the larger point.
The government has done it's best to suppress this information. What has been released
is through external pressure and FOI requests. Yet right off the get go they release all of Bin Laden's plans.
Why do that? The FDR info from the planes became available in 2006. 5 years after 9/11. Government workers
are still forbidden from looking at Wikileaks cables. The Pentagon cameras are still under lockdown.
If you want to believe the Pentagon had no forward looking cameras that is up to you. But it's pretty foolish to think so.
The small clip we were allowed to see took 7 years to acquire. The military court cases at Gitmo have taken years to
find out about. Yet Bin Ladens trove of secrets comes out in 1 week. Information that could be used by splinter
groups of Al qaeda to do real damage to the United States. That doesn't seem odd to you? We the citizens of the
U.S. can't have jack for years yet the terrorists out there can have Bin Ladens plans overnight.

There will be no mention of kidney disease and dialysis.

That was stuff used to make a guy percieved to be dangerous look weaker and to justify Bush's not really being "too interested" in OBL.
