Uganda lawmakers remove death penalty clause from anti-gay bill

Reporting from Johannesburg, South Africa — After intense international criticism, proponents of an anti-gay bill before Uganda's parliament have removed a punitive clause that called for hanging people who have consensual homosexual sex.

However, they were expected to push ahead with the measure, which criminalizes the promotion of homosexuality.

The bill was to be debated Wednesday, the last day of the current parliament, but was dropped from the agenda. There were reports it might be debated in an extraordinary sitting of parliament Friday.

I also just saw on Rachel Maddow that Ugandan police shot protesters with pink paint-balls.

1. Here's hoping it says removed
It seems Rachel thinks it might have to have something to do with the Dictator's newest inauguration which is coming up. The question is, will he simply insert the death penalty again after he keeps power.

This is one of the worst things ever in my opinion. Another government sanctioned murder of a group of people just for who they are. This is no different than the German Nazis making it legal to murder Jews before WWII. It's now a criminal thing, on penalty of death to be gay. It's a fucking horrendous thing that should be something the American government condemns in a far worse way than it does Gaddafi's murderous actions against it's own people. President Obama should send in drones to stop this shit. This is no less than an act of genocide.

3. Hateful culture and atavistic religious superstitions...
I wish to fuck the American 'faith community' would get its nose out of the air, stand up and stop what is being done in their name. I wish they would stop rationalizing hate speech, calls for war on gay people, McClurkin style invective which circles the world and causes suffering and death.
