Republicans Brace for ‘Abuse’ Over Budget Cuts Beyond Medicare
Source: Bloomberg

Republican U.S. Representative Mike Simpson often begins speeches on the federal budget in his home state of Idaho with two questions.

First, he asks constituents whether they think budget deficits are a threat to the nation’s security. Every hand goes up. The same happens when he asks if the government needs to spend less.

He then tells them the cheering is likely to stop: “By the time we’re done, if we do what’s right, every one of you is going to be mad at us.”

While most attention has focused on cuts to Medicare in the 2012 budget that House Republicans passed on April 15, party lawmakers will also face a backlash against plans to slash $62 billion, or about 15 percent, from non-security discretionary programs, or those for which spending isn’t mandated. The targets range from education and disease research to transportation and public safety.

3. It's pretty sad watching a once great nation deteriorate more and more each day. It doesn't
have to be this way, but people seem to love to vote in those willing to destroy the US for people. Go USA, Inc. This nation will eventually be a shadow of its former self IMO if we continue down the current path of cutting all of the programs promoting human survival. What will remain is a nation of sociopaths.

I read part of a paper recently on, does the US suffer from Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). It's hard to put down such an analysis and not conclude the author is correct. I don't have the link now, but will try to find it if someone really wants it ...

8. if we do what’s right,
That's only if you actually think the budget can be balanced by cutting elementary school teachers' and policemen's pay.

Why anyone would believe that is beyond me.

Before cutting pensions and medicare.... how about looking HARD at the defense budget. (It's all been offense, not defense, for years now.) How about cutting your OWN pension and pay 1st. What sacrifices are YOU making, Rep? Giving up your parking space is not gonna do it either.

All they're doing is trying to destroy the country, and we persecute them for it. How mean of us.
