LONDON | Tue May 3, 2011 6:40am EDT
(Reuters) - Police said on Tuesday they had arrested five men close to the Sellafield nuclear reprocessing plant in northwest England under counter-terrorism laws.

Cumbria police said the men were arrested on Monday after officers conducted a stop check on a vehicle near the site.

The men are all aged in their 20s and from London, police said.

1. Sellafield police arrest five suspected terrorists
Edited on Tue May-03-11 06:02 AM by Bosonic
At 4.32pm yesterday, Monday 2 May, police officers from the Civil Nuclear Constabulary conducted a stop check on a vehicle close to the Sellafield site in West Cumbria.

As a result, police officers from Cumbria Constabulary arrested five men from London, all aged in their 20s, under section 41 of the Terrorism Act.

They were taken to police custody in Carlisle overnight and are being transported to Manchester this morning. The investigation is being led by the North West Counter Terrorism Unit.

A road closure affected the area for a short period of time.

Could be actual terrorists, or nuclear energy protesters. No additional info so far.

One additional tidbit:

The BBC's Fiona Trott said the men were thought to have been filming and were all Bangladeshi.

4. The Western European countries will continue to be haunted by the effects of colonialism...
and empire for generations.

Being reported on BBC right now. Other than confirming the native nationality of those arrested, no new information.

5. Which reminds me, whatever happened to this story?

Oh, how about that? It seems to have disappeared from my journal as well.

Remember that story about two guys with a truckload of money being picked up outside of a US nuclear power plant? Of course you don't.

Apparently, it didn't happen.

6. It's probably just jittery police.
Bangladesh is a Muslim dominated country, but that really says nothing.

One must be reserved at this time, because a false alarm might eliminate any helpfulness that might arise from a real warning of danger.
