Texas might try to null transgender marriage rights
Source: AP

Two years after Texas became one of the last states to allow transgendered people to use proof of their sex change to get a marriage license, Republican lawmakers are trying to roll back the clock.

Advocates for the transgendered say a proposal to bar transgendered people from getting married smacks of discrimination and would put their legally-granted marriages in danger of being nullified if challenged in court.

"It appears the goal is to try to enshrine a really horrifying ruling and making it law in the state of Texas," said John Nechman, a Houston attorney whose law firm does work for the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered community.

Gov. Rick Perry's spokesman Mark Miner said the governor never intended to allow transgendered people to get married. He said the three-word sex change provision was sneaked through on a larger piece of legislation Perry signed two years ago regarding marriage licensing rules for county and district clerks. Perry, a Republican, supports efforts to "clarify the unintended consequences" of that law, Miner said.

Get into everyone's private parts, men, women, transgendered, everyone. What's next, reinstating the sodomy laws in Texas that were struck down by the SCOTUS?

Or driving people to move to other states to live with a modicum of peace and dignity, economic freedom and able to live their lives without the bedroom police?

What's next, herd those who don't or can't in good conscience follow their doctrines, into camps to be exterminated, as some on the right have been pushing for years, or for wars between the states who do and don't agree with the Christian Taliban?

The American Taliban party is taking over the government, and this theocracy won't be any less stifling to free thinking, causing people to live in a constant state of fear than the original Afghan model.

If Texas had a Democratic governor and a Democratic legislature, imagine what that legislature and governor would be doing now.

All this is coming from an oppressive fundamentalist world view that pushes privatization, de-funding of the social safety net, removing environmental and worker protections, and dates from the defeat of Governor Ann Richards by George Bush and minions.

Even with their so-called freedom and liberty voices like Alex Jones and their so-called patriot movement, they allow all of this to happen to the people and environment in Texas, because they are the new Christian crusaders, when all is said and done.

In the meantime, my friends there say there is no difference living in Texas than Mexico with a government that does not respond to their hopes or needs in the slightest, but openly reveres and excuses all actions of oligarchs in the Name of God.

I feel badly that a once progressive state is turning into this. But it's hardly unexpected when senators from Texas have called for hunting down Democrats with dogs and Rush calls for a bounty on liberals like they are game animals, and FOX probably holds the largest audience share.

4. So they're either going to allow transgender same sex marriage or transgender opposite sex marriage.
There are transgender persons who are homosexual, in fact. So the headline is a bit problematic.
