Tea Party group plans rally targeting GOP
Source: CBS News

Leaders of the Tea Party Patriots are planning a rally in Washington, D.C. next week to protest House Republicans' willingness to compromise on spending cuts in the federal budget and demand that Republicans "make the tough decisions we sent them there to make."

"On Thursday, March 31, 2011, Tea Party Patriots will be holding a Continuing Revolution Rally on the East Side of the Capitol Building from noon to 1:30pm," reads a note on the group's Facebook page. "While the Congress continues 'business-as-usual' with their short term continuing resolutions, we will be there to Continue our Tea Party Revolution and demand they make the tough decisions we sent them there to make."

Mark Meckler, co-founder and National Coordinator of the Tea Party Patriots, told CBS News the rally is intended to hold Republicans to a series of campaign pledges - including the Republican "Pledge to America," which promised to cut $100 billion from the federal budget in the 2011 fiscal year.

"The point of the rally is to do as we promised: stand with the people who are willing to make the hard choices and do the difficult work of getting spending and debt under control," Meckler told Hotsheet. "There are 54 people who voted against the short term , and they need to know we stand with them. For those that voted for it, we need them to know we are here, and we want them to join with the 54 and do the right thing, instead of the easy, short term thing. So this rally is intended as both a carrot and a stick."

28. Even that one person is ablating voters for us.
She's taking up an entire bench near the busy pizza place where I used to get food, next to the Navy Memorial, across the street from the Archives. That mild inconvenience probably ticked off dozens of people who wanted to sit down to eat there, and even if that trash isn't hers, that unimpressed dude walking by is probably assuming it is.

That's one of the things I love about those people. They're so painfully unaware of what they're doing that they offend others, even individually.

3. Of course they will! They're showing the will of the (koch) people!
Too bad there isn't much notice for a counter demonstration to be held to make the media show the will of the working people. Oops, they have to be at work, not bribed like the astroturfers.

5. Hey teaparty idiots
There is no budget crisis. Get rid of the Bush tax cuts and we are in primary balance in 3 or 4 years.

8. Does anyone know the derivation of these Tea Partiers?
Because, I know that within the last forty years, there was always a core group pulling the Republican party to the right. At anyone time it was:

Racists-Libertarians pretending to be fiscal conservatives-Evangelicals & Baptists. So, who are the Tea Partiers today?

22. my
personal take on the Tea-partiers is that they're a mash up of the rump of the Birchers and the bitter dregs of the moral majority with a leavening of libertarianism thrown in for the purpose of rationalizing their radical anti-tax stance.I suspect they'd ostracize both Barry Goldwater and William F.Buckley Jr. as insufficiently ideologically pure.Dwight Eisenhower wouldn't stand a chance with them and I think both St.Ronnie the Forgetful and Tricky Dicky from Yorba Linda would be suspect.

15. A friend of mine will probably be with them. Oddly enough, I wish him well.
I wish him to so rile up the teabaggers that they think they can attack Republicans who don't tow
their line with the same fervor they have when attacking Democrats. I wish him to help tear the
American right wing into such shreds that by the time the 2012 election rolls around, the American
right looks like it has been passed through a paper shredder, and the shredder won.

18. Ooh, boy, do they want budget cuts!
They just can't identify any. Yeah, cut $100 billion from the budget, but don't touch defense. Oh, and don't touch Medicare. Social Security needs to keep paying benefits. How about foreign aid? Hmmm. Not nearly as much spent there as you'd think. Agriculture subsidies? But what about family farms (regardless of where the bulk of those subsidies really goes)?

No wonder they just yammer about cuts without getting too specific. How about cutting government money for Rascals and Hoverounds? No?

26. "Divide and Conquer" politics comes home to roost
I'm sure Karl Rove, who is the Godfather of divisive politics (as used against Democrats), didn't envision any of this when the Teabag Party first emerged. His "big tent party" concept seems to have developed a huge rift.
