Putin Likens U.N. Libya Resolution To Crusade Calls

VOTKINSK, Russia (Reuters) - Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin Monday likened the U.N. Security Council resolution supporting military action in Libya to medieval calls for crusades.

Putin, in the first major remarks from a Russian leader since a coalition of Western countries began air strikes in Libya, said that Muammar Gaddafi's government fell short of democracy but added that did not justify military intervention.

"The resolution is defective and flawed," Putin told workers at a Russian ballistic missile factory. "It allows everything. It resembles medieval calls for crusades."

Putin said that interference in other countries' internal affairs has become a trend in U.S. foreign policy and that the events in Libya indicated that Russia should strengthen its own defense capabilities.

6. Not sure it was up to him
and what he said hasn't gone down too well with Medvedev.

Medvedev rejects Putin 'crusade' remark over Libya.

Russia's President Dmitry Medvedev has said Prime Minister Vladimir Putin's description of the UN resolution on Libya is "unacceptable".

The rare rebuke came after Mr Putin said the resolution resembled "medieval calls for crusades".

Mr Medvedev said such comments could "lead to a clash of civilisations".

8. Putin and Russia kicked Georgian ass over South Ossettia
which would not have occurred wo/ Western backing.

Whatever one may think of Putin, one is foolish to not listen.

Russia, China, Brazil, India, and one other nation abstained from the UNSC vote; Russia and China had veto power.

I worry about the end game and exit with Libya (and Yemen and Egypt and etc.)

Was surprised by the extent of the USA attack after listening to SOS Clinton and POTUS Obama statements after the vote.
