Iran's iFilm off air due to interference

Arabic-language entertainment channel iFilm is off air, after jamming signals were transmitted from a location in the Middle East.

Noorsat Satellite Commutation Company informed the channel on Saturday that its Bahrain-based network operation center is working to detect the source of the interfering signal.

Reports say the interfering signal is being transmitted from Bahrain, where the government has launched a massive crackdown on protesters with the help of the Saudi military.

It is not the first time that Iranian channels have experienced down time in the midst of crisis in the Middle East.

In mid-March 2010, the broadcast of the Iran-based Arabic-language Al-Alam satellite news channel was interrupted on Badr 5 and 6 transponders.

The attack on Iranian-based news channel was reportedly caused by installations capable of simultaneously interfering with Al-Alam's frequencies on the Badr -- formerly known as ArabSat.

The channel had gained popularity for its fair and in-depth coverage of the revolutions in the Middle East and North Africa, particularly in Bahrain.
