'Lovely' Ky. woman accused of horrific war crimes
Source: MSNBC

STANTON, Ky. — The arrest of a Croatian woman in small-town Kentucky for alleged war crimes two decades ago in the former Yugoslavia "brings her long run from justice to an end," a U.S. marshal said.

-----

Federal agents arrested Basic on Tuesday. A complaint filed by U.S. Attorney James Arehart accuses Basic of committing crimes at three camps in the early 1990s near the majority-Serbian settlement of Cardak in Derventa in Bosnia.

The Croatian woman locals in Stanton knew as "Issabella" settled years ago in this rural, hilly area and took jobs bathing elderly nursing home patients and working at a sandwich factory.

-----

As a soldier in the Croatian army, she killed a prisoner and tortured others by forcing them to drink human blood and gasoline, authorities said.

1. Please send these folks after * and Shooter.
Must have justice for all. Oh, we don't call it torture when it is carried out by our own.

3. My thoughts exactly.
There must be a name for this kind of total disconnect where otoh, we claim it's better to 'look forward' than prosecute war criminals, and on the other, pretend to be the moral arbieters of justice when the war criminals come from somewhere else.

Having said that, I am not sorry to see war criminals being prosecuted.

17. And ripped out fingernails, tore ears off with pliers. The cruelty is off the charts but also,
she must have been strong as shit, too. It would be very difficult to tear an ear off with pliers. That tissue is very tough.

20. Wow, where do we get the stone cojones?
Arresting someone for long-ago violations of a quaint old document? I hope we were lookin' forward to the future when she was taken into custody, and not lookin' backwards to the past. Because we've turned the page on a new day for a brighter tomorrow. And stuff. Oh, and we've started a war with another country, now that the other two wars are getting kind of stale.
