House to Vote on Cutting off Funds for NPR
Source: ABC News

House Republicans are preparing another strike against public broadcasting with legislation to bar federal funding of National Public Radio and prohibit local public stations from using federal money to pay NPR dues.

The House last month voted to strip NPR's parent organization, the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, of all federal funding through the end of the current budget year. The NPR vote is set for Thursday.

Conservative antagonism toward NPR increased last week after an NPR executive was caught on tape deriding the tea party movement. Both the executive and NPR's president resigned after the incident.

Massachusetts Democrat Jim McGovern said Republicans were engaged in an "ideological battle" in going after NPR. But Colorado Republican Doug Lamborn, the sponsor, said NPR "can survive, even thrive" without government subsidies.

Democrats just need to give the Republicans a taste of their own NO medicine from now until 2012.

3. Right.
'But Colorado Republican Doug Lamborn, the sponsor, said NPR "can survive, even thrive" without government subsidies.'

Yet Exxon Mobile cannot.

Go figure.

5. What's that word again for people who try the same thing, over & over expecting a different outcome?
I doubt NPR's cost to the government approachs the cost of the time of the House that has been wasted by the Republics trying to kill NPR. If they were serious about saving money, they would remove the "Non-discretionary" label from military spending. Bush's war(crime)s of choice were completely discretionary, as is much of military spending.

7. what the Republicans want is a Monopoly on ALL MEDIA
they know that private funding for NPR will compromise all journalism in favor of those privately funding it. They want commercial intersts to control EVERYTHING.

The Republican agenda is FASCISM and the DC wimps are too timid to call it what it is while allowing the other side to call them socialist even though they aren't. I blame the democrats for allowing the GOP to gain this much power.
