1 killed, 2 hurt in Afghan landmine blast

KABUL: Suspected Taliban insurgents detonated a remote-controlled land mine in southeastern Afghanistan, leaving one man dead and wounding two policemen, police spokesman Khan Syed said on Friday.

The explosion occurred on Wednesday in Paktika province, about 250 kilometres southeast of the capital Kabul, Syed said.

The dead man was identified as Raees, the son of the chief of government administration in Barmol, a district centre near the Pakistani border.

Raees, who like many Afghans went by a single name, was killed when the land mine went off near his home. The explosion also tore down a wall of the house.
