Chinese forces crackdown on foreign journalists: report

Berlin: The Chinese security forces today cracked down on foreign journalists, driven by mounting nervousness that the "jasmine revolution" sweeping the Arab world might spread to their country, German media reported today.

German weekly 'Stern' reported that its China correspondent Janis Vougioukas was among a dozen foreign journalists detained by police as they visited the "Peace Cinema" square in Shanghai to watch a protest demonstration.

"They were taken to a nearby police station, questioned in an underground bunker for three hours and set free after signing an admission that they intentionally violated the Chinese rules for foreign correspondents," the weekly said.

-------

They were told by the police that they need special permission to film in certain areas and asked to sign an undertaking that they will comply with the Chinese regulations.

Sadly, they don't even get that all these other countries had revolutions FROM the people. And, many of them are more repressive than China is. But, the Chinese mentality is such that the first thing they do is look somewhere to place the blame. It is absolutely ludicrous to think that a bunch of western reporters are going down to certain areas with cameras and purposely stirring up trouble.

If they keep this up, they will have a real problem on their hands.

2. They Also Don't Want Journalists Reporting on the Demonstrations
or on whatever their police do to the demonstrators.

3. That's a given, yeah
But here they try to convince the Chinese people the reporters are actually STARTING the demonstrations.... very far-fetched.
