Interpol issues global alert on Gaddafi (& 15 others, including members of his family)
Source: AFP

Paris, March 04, 2011

Interpol has issued a global alert against Libyan leader Moamer Kadhafi and 15 others, including members of his family and close associates, the global police organisation said on Friday. Interpol said it issued the Orange Notice "in a bid to warn member states of the danger posed by the movement of these individuals and their assets," following a UN Security Council travel ban and asset freeze.

The move is also to assist the International Criminal Court investigation into alleged crimes against humanity in Libya, Interpol said in a statement.

The alert means Interpol's 188 member countries "will be able to take all necessary measures to protect civilians and to enforce travel bans against all 16 Libyan nationals, as well as the assets freeze targeting six of them."

"The individuals subject to the Orange Notice have been identified as being involved in or complicit in planning attacks, including aerial bombardments, on civilian populations."

1. Wonder why everyone cares so much more about the kaddahfi family's
"alleged crimes against humanity in Libya" than we do about anyone else's crimes against humanity?

Ethnic "cleansers" wherever? Religious persecutors wherever? Torturers wherever? Slave traders wherever?

Yes, Gaddafi is living carrion, but why single him and members of his family out from among those who have been, and continue to be, as bad or worse?

Whatabout, whatabout, whatabout. Give me a friggin break. If a situation is in place to punish even one exploitive, despicable, inhuman regime/family/individual then that action should be wholeheartedly supported.

The world overlords don't give a flying fuck about fairness, they don't give a fuck about staggering levels of suffering unless they can see that the status quo doesn't suit their interests. Is it right? Is it fair? No but if they are forced to act against one of their own then hoo-fucking-ray.

I take enormous satisfaction that Gadaffi and his shit family of goons are probably whining right now about the 'unfairness' of it all.

12. +1, especially if it helps legitimize the ICC. Who knows, Bush might get charged when he's 85-90.

Big deal. Who doesn't?

Self righteous plus rudeness does not equal moral superiority. Get over yourself.

13. He didn't bribe the right people.
That's all.

He is no worse and no better than thousands of other such "people"
around the world (ex-leaders, ex-CEOs, ex-politicians) but if you
don't pay the right bribes to the right people, you're screwed.

15. They only issued an orange alert for Gaddafi; Assange's was red
because while Gaddafi is killing his own people and stealing the wealth of a nation, Assange pissed off the American plutocracy.

6. Stupid Gaddafi. If he had only left with his gold for some friendly nation, he'd be in a good shape.
With his voluptuous Ukrainian nurse by his side. What an idiot.
