Boehner rejects four week government funding bill

Washington (CNN) - House Speaker John Boehner rejected a Democratic proposal to extend government funding for four weeks instead of the two-week bill the House is voting on Tuesday afternoon.

"If there had been a conversation about this ten days ago or two days ago we might have something to talk about," Boehner said.

Many Senate Democrats have said they would prefer a 30-day extension of government funding because it would give them more time to negotiate a spending measure that would last for the remaining seven months of the fiscal year.

Boehner dismissed a question from CNN asking if the House GOP could accept changes by the Senate, quipping, "If ands and buts were candy and nuts, every day would be Christmas."

12. That's funny the MSM has been claiming that the GOP really doesn't want a gov shutdown.

Maybe the MSM just doesn't think that the Republicans would be that stupid in an economy like this one. Maybe it's NOT because the MSM tries to let the Republicans off the hook whenever possible.

learned from Newt Gingrich how "being a jerk" could hurt their party, after Newt's shutdown of the federal government in 1995 caused the GOP plenty in the next election.

Boehner was working for Newt Gingrich at that time. Think he learned anything?

The last time the GOP did this, they gave the Democrats a majority in Congress...
